About the Role
As the Head of Design/ Design Director, you will lead the creative vision and strategic design direction for our jewellery collections. You'll bridge artistic innovation with commercial objectives, ensuring each collection resonates with our brand identity, aligns with market trends, and supports production feasibility. This role demands visionary leadership, vast expertise in materials and manufacturing, and the ability to deliver designs that are both captivating and market-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Vision & Creative Leadership
Define and champion the overarching creative direction and design ethos of the brand.
Conceive and develop original collections across categories--bridal, gold, gemstone, diamond, contemporary, and more.
Use trend forecasting and market insights to craft designs that anticipate global and regional market shifts.
Strike the right balance between artistic originality, wearability, and commercial appeal.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Lead, mentor, and inspire the in-house design team, including CAD specialists and master artisans.
Partner with product development, merchandising, and marketing teams to align design outputs with business goals.
Guide skill development of junior designers through training, feedback, and structured growth opportunities.
Product Development & Execution
Translate creative concepts into sketches, CAD prototypes, and final samples.
Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure that design intent, quality, and feasibility are met.
Manage production timelines and proactively troubleshoot design-related issues.
Brand Strategy & Market Intelligence
Anchor all designs firmly within the brand's identity, positioning, and target customer personas.
Conduct competitor analysis and market research to identify trends and growth opportunities.
Tailor designs to different collections, price tiers, and consumer profiles.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Uphold exceptional standards of design craftsmanship, finishing, and product integrity.
Ensure compliance with hallmarking rules, BIS mandates, and ethical sourcing protocols.
Approve all final prototypes prior to collection launches.
Strategic Input & Industry Representation
Shape seasonal collection strategies and provide input into long-term product roadmaps.
Present design proposals to senior management and key stakeholders.
Represent the brand at exhibitions, trade shows, and industry events.
Key Skills & Core Competencies
Exceptional aesthetic judgment, creative vision, and innovation in jewellery design.
Mastery in sketching, CAD software, and design tools.
Deep knowledge of metals, gemstones, settings, and jewellery manufacturing techniques.
Strong leadership, team-building, and mentoring capabilities.
Keen market awareness--understanding trends, consumer behavior, and competitive dynamics.
Excellent presentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to harmonize creativity with commercial objectives and brand strategy.
Education & Experience
Degree or diploma in Jewellery Design, Fine Arts, or a related discipline.
Proven success in designing and launching compelling collections for established jewellery brands.
Exposure to both traditional and modern/contemporary jewellery segments.
