We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Design Engineering to lead our talented team of design and mechanical engineers. In this pivotal leadership role, you will be responsible for the entire product design lifecycle--from initial concept and prototyping through to detailed design, validation, and manufacturing transfer. You will combine your deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills to drive innovation, ensure the highest levels of quality and performance, and deliver world-class products on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of design, mechanical, and CAD engineers.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Manage resource allocation, workload planning, and career development for the team.
Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of top engineering talent.
Technical Strategy & Execution:
Own the technical vision and strategy for the product design function.
Drive the end-to-end product development process, ensuring robust design practices (

: Design for Manufacturability (or Manufacturing) /
DFA
: Design for Assembly /
DFT
: Design for Test (or Testability) /
DFMEA
: Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis are implemented from the outset.
Lead technical design reviews, provide expert guidance, and make critical decisions on design approaches and technologies.
Champion the use of advanced engineering tools (CAD, CAE, Simulation, PLM) to improve efficiency and outcomes. L).
Project & Product Delivery:
Collaborate closely with Product Management, Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to define product requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies for the design engineering function.
Ensure seamless transition of products from R&D into mass production, working closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues that arise during development and production.
Process & Operational Excellence:
Establish, document, and continuously improve design and development processes.
Implement and manage a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system to ensure data integrity and control.
Develop and maintain best practices for CAD modeling, drawing standards, and documentation.
Manage the department's budget, tools, and software licenses.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
15 to 20+ years
of progressive experience in product design and development, with at least
8 to 12+ years
in a leadership or management role.
Proven track record of successfully leading the development and launch of complex physical products into high-volume manufacturing.
Deep expertise in 3D CAD modelling (e.g., Solid Works, Cero, CATIA, NX) and PLM systems .
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, additive manufacturing) and material selection.
Extensive experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and tolerance analysis.
Excellent project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:
Experience in automobile manufacturing.
Familiarity with regulatory standards and certification processes relevant to the industry.
Experience working with global and cross-functional teams, including overseas manufacturers.
