# 2. Position Overview
The HoD for Foreign Languages is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, academic rigor, and daily management of the Foreign Languages department. The successful candidate will be an exemplary educator and a skilled IBDP French practitioner, capable of leading a team of language teachers, driving curriculum development, and ensuring outstanding student achievement across all language programs, with a specific focus on the IB Diploma Programme.

# 3. Key Responsibilities
A. Leadership & Department Management:
Provide dynamic and effective leadership to the Foreign Languages department, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
Lead, manage, and mentor a team of language teachers, conducting regular lesson observations, providing constructive feedback, and supporting their professional growth.
Manage departmental resources, including budgets, teaching materials, and language lab facilities.
Chair regular departmental meetings, setting clear agendas and ensuring effective communication of school policies and initiatives.
B. Academic & Curriculum Development (IBDP French Focus):
Teach IBDP French (Language B or Ab Initio) to a high standard, serving as a model of best practice for the department.
Ensure the design, implementation, and review of a cohesive and challenging curriculum for all foreign language offerings (e.g., French, Spanish, Hindi, etc.), ensuring alignment with IB philosophy and standards.
Lead the development of unit planners, schemes of work, and assessment instruments for the department.
Stay abreast of developments in IB language curriculum and pedagogy, and lead relevant in-house workshops for the faculty.
C. Assessment, Data & Student Achievement:
Oversee the entire assessment process for the department, ensuring it is robust, consistent, and supportive of student learning.
Analyze student performance data (including IB results, e-Assessments, and internal exams) to identify trends, set targets, and implement intervention strategies where needed.
Be responsible for the organization and smooth execution of IBDP French internal assessments (IA) and oral examinations.
D. Residential School & Pastoral Commitment:
Act as a positive role model and contribute actively to the residential life of the school.
Fulfill boarding house duties, which may include supervision, tutoring, or leading co-curricular activities.
Participate in and potentially lead school-wide events, trips, and cultural celebrations that promote international-mindedness.
E. Community & Communication:
Maintain clear and proactive communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and departmental activities.
Promote the Foreign Languages department within and outside the school through events, competitions, and celebrations of linguistic diversity.

# 4. Qualification & Experience
Essential:
A Master's degree in French or a related field.
A recognized teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent).
Minimum of 8-10 years of teaching experience, with at least 5 years of proven success teaching IBDP French (Language B)*.
Substantial experience in a leadership or coordination role within a school department.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the IB Diploma Programme curriculum and assessment criteria for French.
Experience working in a multicultural and international school setting.
Highly Desirable:
Experience in a residential/boarding schoolenvironment.
Experience in teaching a second foreign language.
IB Workshop Leader, Examiner, or Workshop Facilitator experience.
Familiarity with other IB programmes (PYP, MYP).
