Job Description




$47 billion healthcare giant Novartis AG, headquartered in Basel (Switzerland), incorporated as a company in 2001 with the vision to centralize and harmonize all similar processes from all the 140+ countries and region offices that Novartis AG operates in across all its divisions. Today, NHPL has close to 9000 employees consisting of Pharmacists, scientists, doctors, chemists, statisticians, marketers, and top-drawer finance professionals working for in all functions ranging from research and development of drugs in multiple geographies to driving their commercialization all based out of Hyderabad.
Control and management of +$2bn G&A expenses on a yearly basis. As Head BPA G&A you will play a critical role in managing this cost base and driving operational excellence, as well as providing business partnering support to the G&A functions.
Your responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • To lead all Business Planning & Analysis (BPA) activities related to G&A functions. Business Partnering- Partners effectively on different dimensions (local and global, across divisions as well as Senior Management including G&A function leadership teams)
  • Develop and implement the strategic financial plan in close collaboration with global business leaders for specific G&A functions. Provides cost transparency and ensure good understanding of key cost drivers
  • Evaluates risks & opportunities, proactively communicates and makes recommendations for mitigation. Follows up and ensures issues are addressed. Ensures business partners understand the financial processes and follow internal guidelines/SOPs
  • Generates ad hoc financial analysis to support business decisions. Planning (Budget, LF, StratPlan) & Reporting. Leads the planning process from StratPlan to Budget/LF for the G&A functions. Develops planning guidelines for unts for G&A functions
  • Challenges business requirements and validate with equivalent benchmarks. Leads the development and enhancement of the EG&A reporting dashboard for monitoring expenses for G&A functions worldwide
  • Accounting / Compliance- Ensures good accounting and practices in line with Novartis Accounting Manual (NAM). Applies standard accounting concepts and techniques. Close collaboration with finance teams to ensure proper reporting in compliance with all relevant accounting and compliance requirements. Identifies root cause of problems and recommends controls or processes for improvement
  • Leadership- Operates in a complex matrix organization, provides leadership, aligns clear roles and responsibilities between Corporate Finance and unit BPA teams and drives alignment on relevant G&A topics
  • Strong positive influence without authority by establishing constructive relationships. Point of escalation for the BPAs across BUs, Corporate, other finance teams in situations of conflict. Supports finance talent development and exchange across the Business Units & G&A functions. Strategic thinker to develop solutions and proposals for simplification of G&A function reporting and planning considering future changes.
Minimum requirements

What you\'ll bring to the role:
  • University Degree (Master or higher) in Finance & Accounting or similar business degree/MBA desirable. Chartered Accountant or similar
  • +12 years of finance experience within pharmaceutical/consumer goods industry at country and HQ levels. Relevant financial experience in various areas (Controlling/BPA, Reporting)
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to foster a constructive, yet challenging dialogue. Demonstrates clear leadership skills in driving business results, processes across units and ability to influence others across units/geographies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to clearly present financial and relevant data. Shows strong sense of urgency in solving problems, getting work done, also through others in his/her coordination role
  • Maturity to deal with matters of confidentiality and sensitivity and work effectively in a matrix environment. Outstanding ability to collaborate across matrix organization. Excellent skills in Excel, Power point, SAP (R3/BW/FICO)
