Role purpose
Lead a group of Product Development Scientists within Global PT&E. Lead the development of products from development through to product and production support. This includes formulation chemistry, packaging, application technology and formulation engineering skillsets. Dimensions :

  • People: No of direct reports 4-5, No of indirect reports 20-25 building up over time.
  • Geographic Scope: Locally-based. Direct reports locally based (and some regional/global) projects and portfolio interactions.
Accountabilities
  • Ensure that all operations under direct control comply with Syngenta Health, Safety & Environment policies and conform to Syngenta legal standards
  • Act as the PT&E lead contact for India, liaising with main peers and partners across R&D, P&S and commercial functions.
  • Delivery of the portfolio of CPD and P&S projects ensuring effective operational management within PT&E – budget and project delivery. Provide technical leadership to ensure the design and development of innovative new products which are robust in manufacture and use
  • Provide appropriate technical inputs to the country (possibly regional) business teams, as a partner in the development of the overall business strategy for the country/region and in the generation of individual product strategies
  • Work with global PT&E contacts in other locations for project allocation, co-ordination of resources and managing cross-site interfaces and maintaining networks.
  • Responsible and disciplined approach to budget management and resource planning/tracking and management.
  • Lead, coach, mentor and develop teams of PT&E professionals across various technical disciplines. Develop and execute a coherent capability development plan – people, processes, assets, and governance for sustainable growth of the India PT&E group.
  • Establishes and fosters a positive environment for science, innovation and technology. Provides scientific/technical leadership by proposing, leading and critically reviewing work programmes in novel areas (including external collaborations as appropriate). Advocate technical progression and development of the team.
  • Acts as a global source of expertise for effective use of know-how and problem-solving within PT&E and more broadly.
  • Maintains an awareness of scientific advances and competitive activity thorough knowledge of the literature, competitors monitoring (IPs, key formulations evaluation…) and attendance at national and international meetings.


Qualifications
Knowledge, experience & capabilities
Critical knowledge
  • Good Scientific degree (or equivalent ) in chemistry or engineering or related discipline (BSc, PhD) plus at least 10 years work experience
  • Deep Knowledge of formulation technology applied in the development of innovative new products and their scale-up and manufacture.
  • Awaress of the application of CP products and appreciation of customer needs
  • Deep knowledge of Formulation Product life cycle management from introduction to phase-out
Critical experience
  • Ability to communicate and lead a multi-functional team with credibility and empathy, maintaining a balance between regional CPD and P&S needs and issues.
  • Has a broad understanding of product development and production processes (ideally as used in Syngenta), the requirements of our products and their use by customers.
  • Understands Syngenta’s processes and deliverables within the function and their relevance and transfer to other areas of the organization (e.g., tech transfer processes, manufacturing specifications).
  • Maintains a strong network of contacts within the global function as well as with key stakeholders in the Commercial, P&S and CPD organizations
  • Able to use personal judgement to confidently make timely decisions with the available data and make recommendations on the next steps.
  • Is able to communicate technical facts, ideas and opinions to a general, technical audience in an assertive way and influence others using rational persuasion and strategic influencing skills.
  • Relevant industry experience (8 - 12 years)

Critical success factors & key challenges
  • The role will initially focus on developing and growing the new PT&E function that has been created as part of the Goa site operations. There will be a significant focus on the recruitment, training and development of the team working closely with the Global Head of PT&E capability development.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders in India to develop strong partnerships to enable agile delivery the growing project and product portfolio across R&D and P&S in India while also carefully managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Align with global PT&E processes balancing these with local adaptations where appropriate

Additional Information
Additional information
The role will be based in Goa and will largely focus on partnership and support for India. It will connect to PT&E regionally and globally. Some travel within India will be required e.g. to head office, collaborators, manufacturing locations, etc. as well as possibly some international travel. Innovations Employee may, as part of his/her role and maybe through multifunctional teams, participate in the creation and design of innovative solutions. In this context, Employee may contribute to inventions, designs, other work product, including know-how, copyrights, software, innovations, solutions, and other intellectual assets.
