As a key member of our creative team, you'll design high?impact book interiors, covers, and print collateral using Adobe InDesign. Collaborating with editorial, marketing, and production, you'll ensure every page--from fiction to non?fiction and illustrated titles--meets industry standards and uplifts our brand vision.
Key Responsibilities
Book & Print Layout:
Plan and execute multi?page layouts (40-300+ pages), balancing typography, imagery, and hierarchy for readability and visual appeal.
Cover Design:
Create and refine cover concepts and mockups based on art direction and audience requirements.
File Preparation:
Set up print-ready PDFs, manage bleeds, color profiles, pagination, stylesheets, and master pages.
Cross?Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with editors, authors, designers, project managers, and external print vendors to align on deliverables and timelines.
Quality Control:
Proof and revise InDesign files, addressing issues like text flow, image resolution, and typographic consistency.
Creative Packaging Assets:
Produce additional print collateral (booklets, promo materials, signage) that complements book campaigns.
Trend Awareness & Innovation:
Stay current with book design trends and emerging print technologies to continuously elevate visual storytelling.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
0-2 years in book, magazine, or print layout design, with strong InDesign proficiency (master pages, data merge, styles, scripts).
Technical Skills:
Solid understanding of typography, production processes (spot/Pantone, advanced print setup), and InDesign print features.
Software Proficiency:
Expert-level Adobe InDesign; fluency in Illustrator and Photoshop.
Portfolio:
Showcase multi-page layouts, covers, and any print collateral. Demonstrate both visual impact and editorial functionality.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written skills; ability to clearly present design concepts and collaborate effectively.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous in typesetting, pagination, file prep, proofreading, and version control.
Project Management:
Comfortable juggling multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Nice-to-Have Skills
Working knowledge of
epub or interactive document layout
Experience using scripting tools (JavaScript, AppleScript) to automate workflow
Familiarity with print vendors, prepress standards, and digital print processes
Experience in illustrated books, technical manuals, or educational publications
