Maternity Foundation (MF) is an international non-profit organisation that works to ensure safer births for women and new-borns through innovative programs and digital solutions. From 2025 MF will accelerate the impact of the Safe Delivery+ Programme, a comprehensive, evidence based micro-learning universe with the Safe Delivery App, a free, evidence-based job aid, learning and training tool designed to support predominantly midwives, at the centre. The programme is aimed at holistically addressing maternal and newborn healthcare challenges through a multitude of activities including a new SSA flagship initiative. About the Role
The Grants & Business Development Manager (G & BD Manager) plays a critical cross cutting role in advancing Maternity Foundation's mission to improve maternal and new born health in India. The position focuses on strategic partnerships, stakeholder engagement, proposal writing and grants management. Working closely with the Head of Clinical & Programme in India, the G & BD Manager will engage with national and state-level government partners and private sector stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and community-level partners. The G&B Manager will be responsible for identifying new funding opportunities, managing donor relationships, leading the development of high-quality grant proposals in alignment with the Maternity Foundation's mission and strategic priorities and grants management. As a representative of Maternity Foundation in India, the G & BD Manager will also advocate for Maternity Foundation and maternal health policies at various forums and contribute to the organization's global advocacy efforts while fostering relationships with key stakeholders. The position requires close collaboration with colleagues across the hubs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development

  • Represent Maternity Foundation (MF) in national donor forums and events.
  • Collaborate with the Copenhagen-based business development team to shape funding strategies.
  • Pursue diverse funding opportunities, including:
  • Open calls,
  • Global and Indian foundations, including CSR opportunities.
  • Partnership-based funding (e.g., co-creation of MOUs, joint proposals)
  • Corporate partnerships
  • Manage the full lifecycle of project proposals and grant applications:
  • Lead the development and submission of grant proposals including budget, concept notes, and expressions of interest to institutional donors, foundations, and corporates.
  • Coordinate with technical and program teams to ensure timely inputs and alignment of proposals with strategic priorities.
  • , Lead and co-manage existing funder partnerships, ensuring:
  • Ongoing relationship cultivation
  • Effective meeting coordination
  • Timely status updates and reporting
2. Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at community, state, and national levels to promote program sustainability and local ownership.
  • Actively engage in health forums, advocating for maternal health policy improvements and MF's role in strengthening India's healthcare system.
  • Strengthen donor and partner relationships to expand program reach and impact.
3. Grants & Financial Management
  • Oversee financial components of funding proposals and donor reporting.
  • Track grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
  • Coordinate with program teams to ensure accurate financial tracking of grant-funded activities.
  • Support and manage program budgets, ensuring:
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Alignment with donor expectations
  • Lead the development of financial reports for donors and partners, ensuring:
  • Transparency
  • Compliance with funding guidelines
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop annual budgets.
  • Prepare and oversee regular financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual).
  • Oversee financial operations for Maternity Foundation India, including:
  • Cash flow
  • Accounts payable/receivable
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Internal financial policies
  • Donor requirements
  • Local and national regulations
  • Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Profile & Qualifications we are looking for
Required
Proven experience in:
  • Proposal writing and budget development
  • Program and grant management (preferably in the non-profit sector)
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in similar role e.g. CSR engagement, Partnership development, Fundraising, Grants Management within global health
  • Bachelor's/master's degree in development studies, global health, public health, business administration, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of the National funding landscape, international funders, CSR ecosystem in India, and demonstrated success in securing CSR funding and managing strategic partnerships
Proficiency in:
  • Accounting
  • Microsoft 365 (including SharePoint, Powerpoint and Teams)
  • Advanced Excel
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, networking and communication skills
  • Professional proficiency in English and Hindi
Preferable:
  • Experience in digital health or related sectors
  • Background in maternal and new-born health or health systems strengthening

Terms & Conditions
  • Location: Hybrid or remote from our India Hub in Delhi-NCR.
  • Work Model: Hybrid (min 2 days weekly in the office)
  • Contract: Full-time consultancy agreement. Strong possibility of being permanent after 6 months' probation time.
  • Teams: Team India, Grants & Business Development
  • Reports to: Head of Programme Development/Program Director with dotted lines to Head of Business Development & Head of Clinical & Program, India.
  • Travel: Regular travel expected. Mostly national
  • Monthly fee: 100.000-150.000 INR based on profile and experience. Levels are ex. Communication and medical insurance allowance. Based on qualifications and internal scales.
  • Starting date: From October or upon agreement.
