The Opportunity

Develop, produce, and deliver management information and reports to provide insights and aid decision-making. Create engaging data visualisations and prototypes to help users understand complex information. Support and configure GIS methods and tools and keep documentation up to date. Apply user experience design principles to ensure our GIS products are intuitive and accessible. Model and manage spatial and aspatial data and contribute to data science projects. Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders--across Council teams, with external partners, and the Napier community.

About You

Tertiary-qualified in GIS, Cartography, Geography, Surveying, Information Management, or a related field, with 3-5 years' hands-on experience using QGIS, LocalMaps, ESRI ArcGIS suite, and ArcGIS Online. Skilled in managing spatial and aspatial databases (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, Enterprise Geodatabase) and programming in SQL, Python, FME, and ESRI ArcGIS languages (including Arcade). Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, turning complex data into actionable insights. Flexible, proactive, and committed to continuous learning, innovation, and delivering real results for the community.

This is a permanent, full time role working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier CBD.


The annual salary package for this role is between $84,600-$99,500 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
