A general technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains equipment and facilities across various systems like mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. Key duties include performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting problems, replacing parts, and keeping detailed records of work and parts inventory. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with technical documents and tools to ensure systems are safe and functional. Key responsibilities Maintenance and repair: Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on machinery, vehicles, or building systems. This includes a wide range of tasks, from oil changes to electrical and plumbing repairs. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and identify the cause of malfunctions or problems with equipment and systems. Repairs: Perform repairs, which may involve replacing faulty parts, assembling new components, or fabricating parts as needed. System upkeep: Assist in setting up and maintaining systems such as ventilation, refrigeration, and alarms. Record keeping: Maintain detailed reports on maintenance activities, parts used, and the causes of malfunctions. Inventory management: Track and manage inventories of parts and supplies. Safety compliance: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety and health standards. Required skills and qualifications Technical knowledge: Proficiency with common and specialized tools, and a strong understanding of the systems being worked on (e.g., mechanical, electrical, automotive). Problem-solving: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions from various formats, such as written, oral, or diagrammed. Manual dexterity: Physical ability to perform hands-on tasks, which may include heavy lifting or working in confined spaces. Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and potentially customers.
