Job Purpose
The Deputy General Manager (Projects) will be the second-in-command on site, responsible for the overall execution, management, and commissioning of single or multiple EHV transmission line projects (up to 400kV or 765kV) in the Fatehgarh region. This role ensures project delivery within agreed timelines, budget, and quality and safety standards, while also managing key stakeholders and site operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution:
Develop and implement comprehensive project execution plans, including scope, timelines, resource allocation (manpower, material, machinery), and budgets.
Site Management:
Oversee and manage all construction activities, including civil works (tower foundations), tower erection, stringing (paying out and final sagging), and testing and commissioning of EHV transmission lines.
Right of Way (ROW) and Approvals:
Proactively manage and resolve all Right of Way issues and coordinate with local administration, government agencies, and land owners for necessary permits and approvals.
Contract and Vendor Management:
Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, including contract management, billing, and ensuring their performance aligns with project requirements and safety compliances.
Quality and Safety Assurance:
Implement and enforce strict Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards, ensuring all site activities adhere to relevant codes and regulations (e.g., CEA, CTU, PGCIL, IS, IEEE).
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies. Prepare and present detailed project reports, financial reports, and progress snapshots to senior management and stakeholders.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and motivate site teams (including contractual staff), setting clear goals and conducting performance appraisals to enhance productivity and ensure team satisfaction.
Financial Oversight:
Manage project budgets, track expenditures, ensure cost control, and plan cash flows effectively.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering.
Experience:
+ Minimum of 15 years of experience in EHV transmission line projects, specifically in project execution/implementation roles.
+ Proven experience in managing construction and commissioning of 400kV and above voltage level transmission lines.
+ Demonstrated experience in a managerial or leadership capacity on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills:
+ Thorough understanding of EHV transmission line construction activities, design, technical specifications, and drawings.
+ Sound knowledge of regulatory and statutory requirements as per Indian standards and authorities (CEA, CTU, PGCIL).
+ Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, SAP) and strong computer literacy.
Soft Skills:
+ Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
+ Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
+ Ability to work in challenging site conditions and manage a diverse workforce.
