Job Description

To hold P&L responsibility for the manufacturing unit and provide strategic direction to all plant functions including Production, Planning (PPC), Maintenance, Stores, and Logistics. The GM Operations will ensure the facility meets its output targets while optimizing operational costs, maintaining high safety standards, and ensuring on-time delivery (OTD) of complex, heavy-engineered capital equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Plant Management:

Develop and execute the annual manufacturing budget, Capex planning, and capacity expansion strategies. Establish KPIs for the plant (OEE, Productivity, Scrap Rate, OTIF) and review performance monthly with department heads. Drive operational excellence through the implementation of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Production & Supply Chain Integration:

Oversee the entire order-to-delivery cycle, ensuring synchronization between Engineering releases, Procurement, and Shop Floor execution. Manage critical bottlenecks in heavy fabrication and machining to adhere to strict project timelines. Oversee inventory management strategies to optimize working capital without affecting production continuity.

Leadership & Compliance:

Foster a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring zero tolerance for EHS violations (Factories Act, Pollution Control norms). Mentor second-line leadership (Production Managers, Maintenance Heads) and manage industrial relations (IR) within the plant. Interface with key clients during plant visits and expediting meetings to provide high-level project assurance.
Required Qualifications & Experience

Education:

B.E. in Mechanical/Production Engineering (MBA in Operations is a distinct advantage).

Experience:

18-25 years in Heavy Engineering or Capital Equipment manufacturing, with at least 5 years as a Plant Head.

Technical Skills:

Extensive exposure to Heavy Fabrication, Precision Machining, and Assembly of complex SPMs.
Key Competencies

Commercial Acumen:

Understanding of P&L, direct vs. indirect costs, and inventory carrying costs.

Strategic Vision:

Ability to plan for long-term technology upgrades and capacity building.

Stakeholder Management:

Balancing the demands of Sales, Finance, and Engineering while managing shop-floor reality.
