Job Summary:

The General Manager (GM) will be responsible for

overall operations, production, maintenance, quality, safety, manpower, and cost control

of the

steel furnace and rolling mill

. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and operational excellence to ensure smooth plant functioning, optimum productivity, and compliance with safety and statutory norms.

Key Responsibilities:1. Production & Operations

Oversee end-to-end operations of

furnace (Induction / Arc / Reheating as applicable)

and

rolling mill

. Ensure achievement of

daily, monthly, and annual production targets

. Optimize furnace melting efficiency, yield, fuel/power consumption, and rolling mill productivity. Monitor rolling parameters such as temperature, reduction schedule, mill speed, and finishing quality.

2. Maintenance & Engineering

Ensure preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of furnaces, rolling mill, cranes, utilities, and auxiliary equipment. Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and automation teams to minimize downtime. Plan shutdowns, refractory maintenance, and mill overhauls.

3. Quality Control

Ensure production meets

chemical, mechanical, and dimensional standards

. Monitor billet/bloom quality, rolling defects, and final product specifications. Coordinate with QC for testing, inspection, and corrective actions.

4. Cost Control & Productivity

Control manufacturing costs including power, fuel, consumables, spares, and manpower. Improve yield, reduce rejection, and implement cost-saving initiatives. Prepare and monitor production and maintenance budgets.

5. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

Ensure strict adherence to

safety rules, PPE usage, and statutory compliance

. Implement safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations. Ensure compliance with pollution control norms and environmental regulations.

6. Manpower Management

Lead and manage production, maintenance, and support teams. Manpower planning, shift allocation, training, and performance evaluation. Maintain discipline and healthy industrial relations.

7. Planning & Coordination

Coordinate with

procurement, stores, dispatch, HR, and finance

departments. Ensure raw material availability and finished goods dispatch planning. Liaise with vendors, contractors, and service providers.

8. Reporting & MIS

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports. Present plant performance, issues, and improvement plans to management. Track KPIs related to production, quality, cost, safety, and manpower.

Desired Candidate Profile:Qualification:

B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Electrical / Production Engineering MBA / Management qualification preferred

Experience:

12-20 years

of experience in the

steel industry

Hands-on experience in

both furnace and rolling mill operations

At least

5+ years in a senior managerial role

Key Skills & Knowledge:

Strong technical knowledge of

steel melting, reheating, and rolling processes

Expertise in

maintenance planning, cost control, and safety management

Leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills Knowledge of

ISO, safety standards, and labor laws

Ability to work under pressure and manage large teams

Compensation & Benefits:

CTC: ₹60,000 - ?70,000 per month
