The General Manager will oversee the entire operations of a bag manufacturing unit, ensuring production efficiency, quality standards, cost control, and timely delivery. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, operational expertise, and the ability to manage cross-functional teams including production, procurement, QC, logistics, and sales coordination.
Key Responsibilities1. Operations & Production Management
Plan, organize, and oversee daily manufacturing operations.
Ensure production targets are met in terms of quantity, quality, and timelines.
Implement lean manufacturing, process optimization, and waste reduction strategies.
Monitor machine efficiency, workforce productivity, and plant performance.
2. Quality Control & Compliance
Ensure adherence to quality standards for raw materials and finished bags.
Collaborate with QC teams to reduce defects and improve product consistency.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
3. Supply Chain & Procurement
Oversee procurement of raw materials (fabrics, zippers, accessories, packaging, etc.).
Develop vendor relationships to ensure timely supply and cost optimization.
Maintain optimum inventory levels to avoid stockouts or over-stocking.
4. Workforce & Team Leadership
Manage production supervisors, line leaders, QC staff, and support teams.
Recruit, train, and develop skilled labor and technical staff.
Build a positive workplace culture and ensure effective communication across departments.
5. Cost & Budget Management
Prepare and manage operational budgets for the factory.
Drive cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
Analyze financial data to improve margins and overall profitability.
6. Customer Coordination & Order Fulfillment
Coordinate with sales/marketing teams for order planning and scheduling.
Ensure timely dispatch and delivery of customer orders.
Resolve customer complaints related to production or quality.
7. Continuous Improvement & Strategic Planning
Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and technology upgrades.
Develop long-term operational strategies to scale production capacity.
Prepare monthly MIS reports and present insights to top management.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Production Management, or related field (MBA preferred).
7-15 years of experience
in manufacturing; experience in bags, textiles, leather goods, or related industries is preferred.
Strong knowledge of production planning, supply chain, and factory operations.
Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
