Job Description

Job Title: Stone Department Manager Reports To: Production Manager/Operations Head Position Overview: The Stone Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire operations of the stone department in the jewelry manufacturing unit. This includes managing the procurement, sorting, setting, and quality control of precious and semi-precious stones used in diamond-studded jewelry. The manager will lead a team of stone specialists and work closely with the design, production, and quality control teams to ensure the stones are of the highest quality, meet production specifications, and align with customer needs. Key Responsibilities: 1. Department Management Lead, manage, and supervise a team of stone specialists, gemmologists, and stone setters to ensure smooth workflow and productivity. Allocate tasks and set performance targets for the stone department. Ensure timely completion of stone-related production and dispatch schedules. 2. Stone Procurement & Inventory Management Oversee the procurement of all diamonds, gemstones, and precious stones required for production. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, dealers, and vendors to source high-quality stones at competitive prices. Regularly review stone inventory levels and order new stock as required. Maintain accurate records of all stone-related transactions (purchases, sales, inventory). 3. Quality Control and Assurance Implement and maintain stringent quality control procedures to ensure all stones meet the company's standards of quality. Inspect incoming stones for clarity, color, cut, carat weight, and other specifications. Coordinate with the quality control team to monitor the cutting, polishing, and setting processes to ensure stones are properly handled during manufacturing.

Stone Sorting and Grading Supervise the sorting and grading process of precious stones based on quality, size, shape, and type. Work closely with gemologists to analyze stones for their quality and market value, ensuring compliance with international grading standards (e.g., GIA, AGS). Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for grading, including certificates of authenticity, lab reports, and appraisals. 5. Stone Setting & Production Coordination Collaborate with the design and production teams to ensure that stones are set according to design specifications and that there are no discrepancies. Ensure that the stones are handled with care during the setting process to avoid damage. Monitor and address any issues related to stone misplacement, defective stones, or damaged jewelry during production. 6. Training & Development Conduct regular training sessions for staff on best practices for stone handling, grading, sorting, and setting. Foster a culture of continuous learning and encourage team members to stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in the jewelry industry. 7. Budgeting & Cost Control Prepare and manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement of stones and efficient use of resources. Monitor the consumption of stones during production and ensure that wastage is minimized. Work closely with the finance department to track spending and optimize costs. 8. Reporting & Documentation Generate regular reports on stone usage, quality, and inventory for senior management. Maintain comprehensive documentation for all stone purchases, sales, certifications, and quality inspections.
