Preet Group is a leading Indian equipment manufacturer, specialised in heavy-duty gearboxes, gear drives and rolling-mill equipment. Their Gear & Gearbox division develops custom gearboxes (worm, parallel shaft, helical, bevel-helical) for steel mills, cement, power, marine, etc.
As part of the team you will design, analyse, validate and support manufacturing of gearbox units to meet high performance, reliability and industrial-service conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Conceptualise gearbox architectures to meet application requirements (torque, speed ratio, input/output shafts, mounting, service conditions, space constraints).
Generate 3D CAD models and detailed drawings of gearbox assemblies, including gears, shafts, bearings, housings, seals and lubrication systems.
Perform gear geometry design (e.g., helix angles, module, face width), strength & rating calculations, bearing life calculations, shaft design, housing strength and lubricant system design.
Analyse stresses, deflections, thermal behaviour, lubrication, noise & vibration aspects of the gearbox design; perform FEA or other simulation as needed.
Ensure designs conform to industry standards (gear standards, bearing standards, ISO/AGMA, etc) and internal quality/reliability benchmarks.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams: manufacturing, quality, procurement (components/gear blanks), test & validation, service & maintenance.
Support prototype build, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and validation of gearbox units (including field service support where required).
Create and maintain drawing packages, BOMs, specification sheets, test reports and design change documentation.
Review and optimise existing gearbox products for cost, manufacturability, reliability and performance improvements.
Provide technical support to customers/field team for gearbox issues, modifications, retrofits and upgrades.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of gear technology, materials, lubrication systems and manufacturing methods.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; Master's preferred for senior roles.
Extensive
years
of experience in gearbox or power-transmission product design (in heavy-industrial, mining, steel-mill, marine or large-drive applications) -- adjust based on level.
Strong working knowledge of gear design (spur, helical, bevel, worm), gearbox architecture, bearings, shafts, housings.
Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA) and GA drawings, plus experience with simulation tools / FEA.
Familiarity with rating calculations for gears/bearings, fatigue life, thermal and lubricant system design.
Good understanding of manufacturing processes for gears/gearboxes (gear cutting, grinding, heat-treatment, shafts, housings) and cost-/manufacturability trade-offs.
Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and ability to translate application requirements into robust design solutions.
Team player with good communication skills, able to interface with manufacturing, procurement and field teams.
Willingness to travel for prototype testing, field commissioning and troubleshooting (as required).
Preferred Skills
Experience with large industrial gearbox systems (e.g., rolling mills, cement mills, wind turbines, marine reduction gearboxes).
Knowledge of gearbox standards (AGMA, ISO), lubrication system design and NVH (noise/vibration) aspects.
Experience with reverse engineering/upgrades of gearboxes.
Exposure to manufacturing quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and project-based EPC or turnkey equipment design environment.
Experience in end-to-end product development: from specification, design, manufacturing to commissioning.
