The General Duty Assistant (GDA) provides essential support to medical and nursing staff by performing non-clinical and basic clinical tasks in patient care areas. The role ensures a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients while assisting with basic patient care, logistics, and administrative tasks as directed by the medical team.
Key Responsibilities:Patient Care Support:
Assist patients with basic activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting.
Help in patient mobility by aiding transfers, repositioning in bed, and walking assistance.
Monitor and report any noticeable changes in patients' physical or mental condition to nursing staff.
Ensure patients' comfort by making beds, providing clean linen, and maintaining personal hygiene.
Cleaning and Sanitation:
Maintain cleanliness of wards, patient rooms, treatment areas, and common areas.
Disinfect surfaces, medical equipment, and high-touch areas following infection control protocols.
Handle and dispose of medical waste in compliance with hospital safety and hygiene regulations.
Logistics and Supplies:
Ensure availability of necessary patient care equipment and supplies in the ward.
Assist in transferring medical equipment, linen, and medications as per hospital protocol.
Help in maintaining stock and reporting shortages of essential supplies to the supervisor.
Administrative Support:
Assist in patient admission, discharge, and transfer procedures under supervision.
Support documentation of routine observations such as vital signs, as directed by nursing staff.
Maintain accurate records of patient care activities and report any discrepancies.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow hospital policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and infection control protocols.
Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to the relevant authority.
Handle equipment and materials safely and responsibly.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic healthcare-related training or certification is preferred (e.g., Certificate in Health Care Assistance).
Previous experience in a healthcare setting is an advantage.
