Job Description

They are responsible for preparing, operating, and maintaining gas cutting equipment, often working in fabrication, construction, or shipbuilding environments. They must also adhere to strict safety procedures when handling flammable gases and operating potentially dangerous equipment. Key Responsibilities:

Cutting Metal:

Using oxy-fuel torches to cut metal components according to blueprints, drawings, or specifications.

Equipment Operation:

Setting up, operating, and maintaining gas cutting equipment, including torches, regulators, hoses, and safety devices.

Material Preparation:

Examining and marking metal surfaces to be cut, often using templates or patterns.

Safety Procedures:

Ensuring a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols for handling flammable gases and operating cutting equipment.

Quality Control:

Inspecting cut workpieces for accuracy and adherence to specifications, identifying and correcting defects.

Collaboration:

Working with welders, fitters, and other team members to ensure project goals are met.

Maintenance and Repair:

Performing routine maintenance on cutting equipment and reporting any issues or needed repairs.

Following Instructions:

Reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.

Adaptability:

Working in various environments, such as shipyards, construction sites, or fabrication shops.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in using oxy-fuel cutting torches and related equipment.

Blueprint Reading:

Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Safety Awareness:

Strong understanding of safety procedures and protocols related to gas cutting.

Physical Stamina:

Ability to perform tasks that may require standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.

Attention to Detail:

Ensuring accuracy in cutting and following specifications.

Problem-Solving:

Identifying and resolving issues related to equipment or cutting processes.

Communication Skills:

Effectively communicating with team members and supervisors.

Experience:

Previous experience in gas cutting, welding, or metal fabrication is often required.

Certifications:
