We're reimagining education by replacing traditional teacher-led instruction with AI-powered tutors. In this bold new learning model, engagement is everything. We're looking for a Gamification Expert who can design motivational loops, game mechanics, and rewarding experiences that keep students coming back to learn -- even without a human teacher present. You'll work closely with our UX designers, AI engineers, education psychologists, and product team to make learning addictive, purposeful, and fun.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement gamification frameworks (e.g., points, badges, leaderboards, levels, challenges, streaks) to boost learner motivation and retention.
Create game loops that are aligned with pedagogical goals -- not just fun, but educationally meaningful. o Work with product and AI teams to embed quest-based learning, adaptive difficulty, and narrative-driven learning journeys.
Identify student engagement risks and design behavioral triggers to reduce dropout or fatigue. o Develop persona-specific gamification strategies for different age groups (e.g., 8-12 vs. 13- 16).
Collaborate on UI/UX components like progress dashboards, avatars, rewards, and microinteractions.
Conduct A/B tests, analyze engagement data, and refine mechanics based on student behavior and feedback. o Stay updated on emerging gamification trends in education, apps, and AI.
What You Bring
5+ years of experience designing gamification systems in apps or platforms (edtech, gaming, or behavioral design experience preferred).
Deep understanding of motivation theory (intrinsic vs. extrinsic), player types, and habitforming design.
Strong grasp of user psychology -- especially for students and children.
Experience working with learning designers, product teams, and/or UX teams.
Familiarity with gamified platforms like Duolingo, Prodigy, ClassDojo, Khan Academy, etc.
Bonus: Experience with AI-driven interactions or adaptive content systems.
Bonus: Understanding of pedagogical frameworks (Bloom's Taxonomy, mastery learning, spaced repetition).
Tools You Might Use
Figma / Miro (design mockups, gamification maps)
Firebase / Mixpanel / Amplitude (tracking engagement metrics) o Game design frameworks (Octalysis, Game Thinking, etc.)
Basic knowledge of Unity or Web-based animation tools (optional)
