Job Description

The Game Designer Intern will support the design team in creating serious games and interactive training modules that motivate patients during neuro?rehabilitation while respecting clinical objectives and constraints. ?This internship is hands?on, combining game design, prototyping, documentation, and playtesting in collaboration with developers, clinicians, and therapists.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in designing game concepts, core loops, mechanics, rewards, and difficulty progression for balance and motor?cognitive training modules used in rehab devices. Create and maintain clear game design documents, including gameplay specs, level flows, scoring systems, and UX notes for the development team. Help design levels, scenarios, and challenges that align with therapeutic goals such as balance training, weight shifting, and postural control. Collaborate with developers, artists, and physiotherapy experts to translate clinical requirements into fun, safe, and accessible game experiences. Participate in user testing and internal playtests; observe player (patient/therapist) behavior, gather feedback, and propose design improvements. Support basic balancing and tuning of game parameters (speed, difficulty curves, scoring, feedback intensity) to keep sessions engaging but not fatiguing. Contribute ideas for new gamified modules, themes, and UI elements that can increase motivation and adherence to therapy. Document design decisions, feedback from clinicians, and iteration history to ensure traceability and easier future improvements. Stay updated on trends in serious games, exergames, and gamification in healthcare and rehabilitation.
