, which reimagines classic American legends like Annie Oakley, Molly Pitcher, James Bowie, and Annie Christmas -- blending folklore and real science concepts aligned to 3rd-5th grade science standards (e.g., circuits, weathering, conductors, tides).
Future projects include both fiction and nonfiction books featuring themes of discovery, creativity, and STEM learning for young readers.

who can bring stories to life through expressive characters, dynamic compositions, and educational visuals that engage children and teachers alike.

Responsibilities
Create engaging, full-color illustrations that bring each story to life for young readers.
Develop character designs based on story descriptions, historical or cultural references, and author input.
Depict scientific or educational concepts in visually clear and age-appropriate ways (e.g., circuits, moon phases, erosion).
Collaborate closely with the editorial and design team to ensure illustrations match story tone, pacing, and learning goals.
Deliver final artwork in print-ready and digital-ready formats (preferably layered PSD, AI, or high-resolution TIFF).
Qualifications
Strong portfolio showcasing children's book illustration, character art, or narrative storytelling.
Experience creating art for ages 7-11 preferred.
Ability to visually interpret educational or STEM-related concepts in creative ways.
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, or equivalent digital illustration tools.
Excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Organized, open to feedback, and comfortable collaborating remotely.
Nice to Have
Experience with educational publishing or STEM illustration.
Familiarity with inclusive and diverse representation in children's media.
Understanding of book layout and how art interacts with text and educational features.
Deliverables Per Picture Book
Full-color illustrations for a 32-page picture book, including:
13-15 illustrated spreads (~26 pages of full-color artwork)
1 illustrated title page
1 fully illustrated cover (front, spine, and back, if applicable)
Optional: additional spot illustrations or visual diagrams, depending on project needs
Compensation
Competitive flat rate per project, based on experience, illustration style, and scope.
Rate will be determined at contract signing and paid by milestone or final approval.
