Key responsibilities

Operate and monitor equipment:

Run and oversee computerized installations for melting, refining, and casting metal. Operate molding machines, furnaces, and other machinery.

Manage molten metal:

Charge furnaces with the correct materials. Melt metals and add alloys. Skim slag from molten metal and pour metal into molds.

Prepare and assemble molds:

Mix sand, prepare green sand molds, and ram sand into flasks. Assemble and clamp molds, ensuring they are free of defects. Spray binders on molds and dry them.

Perform finishing and quality control:

Clean castings and remove gates, sprues, and other projections. Conduct quality tests on parts and assess molds for defects. Sort castings for assembly.

Maintain equipment and work area:

Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment, tools, and the overall work area. Break up and remove slag.

Follow safety procedures:

Adhere to all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment, especially when working near molten metal. Ensure efficient use of materials and energy.
Physical and other requirements

The job is often physically demanding and may require frequent lifting of heavy objects. Requires attention to detail and the ability to monitor production parameters. May require working weekends.
