Flat Knitting Designer

who can help us innovate and create world-class shoe uppers.

We are seeking a

creative and technically skilled Flat Knitting Designer

specializing in

shoe upper design

. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience with

flat knitting machines (like Stoll, Shima Seiki, Cixing, etc.)

, strong understanding of footwear upper structures, yarns, textures, and knitting techniques required for performance, comfort, and aesthetics in sports & casual footwear.

You will be responsible for

conceptualizing, designing, programming, prototyping, and refining

knitted uppers for global-quality footwear.

Key Responsibilities:Design & Development:

Create innovative

knitted shoe upper designs

based on brand requirements and trend forecasts. Develop technical patterns, structures, and textures suited for sports, running, athleisure, and casual footwear. Convert design ideas into

machine-ready knitting programs

(Stoll/M1 Plus, Shima Apex, Cixing software, etc.). Experiment with yarn combinations, densities, mesh areas, reinforcements, and breathability zones.

Machine Programming & Sampling:

Program flat knitting machines for first samples and production-ready prototypes. Collaborate with machine operators to optimize knitting parameters for speed, quality, and efficiency. Reduce wastage by optimizing patterns and yarn consumption.

Material & Technical Understanding:

Work with yarns such as Polyester, Nylon, Spandex, Jacquard yarns, etc. Develop structured areas like eyestay, collar padding zones, tongue parts, vamp design, and engineered mesh.

Team Coordination:

Work closely with the development, sourcing, and production teams. Support client presentations and technical discussions. Update and maintain design library and documentation.

Qualifications & Requirements:

2-5+ years experience

in

flat knitting design

, preferably in

shoe uppers

. Proficiency in knitting machine software:

Stoll M1+, Shima Seiki Apex, Cixing software

, etc. Strong understanding of footwear upper construction and knitted material behavior. Creative mindset with excellent color, pattern, and aesthetic sense. Ability to convert ideas into high-performance functional knitted uppers. Knowledge of current global footwear trends (sportswear, athleisure, performance running).
