Job Description

A Fabrication Fitter assembles and positions metal components to construct large structures like bridges, tanks, and building frames, following blueprints and using various hand and power tools for cutting, drilling, and fitting parts before they are welded, bolted, or riveted together. Key responsibilities include reading technical drawings, ensuring precise alignment and conformity of parts, and maintaining a safe work environment, often working in noisy environments or at significant heights. Key Responsibilities

Interpreting Blueprints:

Reading and understanding technical drawings, blueprints, and layout specifications to know how to construct and assemble metal components.

Layout and Measuring:

Marking, measuring, cutting, and fitting metal sections, plates, and other structural components according to drawings and specifications.

Assembly and Fitting:

Positioning, aligning, and fitting parts together to form subassemblies or complete units using specialized machinery and hand tools.

Component Fastening:

Securing components by welding, bolting, or riveting them into place.

Tool and Equipment Operation:

Operating specialized machinery for cutting, punching, rolling, and straightening metal pieces, as well as using various hand, electric, and hydraulic tools.

Quality Control:

Inspecting completed assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and conform to specifications.

Safety and Environment:

Following all safety regulations and practices, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean and safe working area.

Collaboration:

Working effectively with team members, welders, and other skilled trades to ensure efficient workflow and project completion.
Skills & Attributes

Technical Aptitude:

The ability to interpret engineering drawings and understand mechanical processes.

Manual Dexterity:

Proficiency with hand and power tools for cutting, grinding, drilling, and fitting metal.

Accuracy and Precision:

The ability to perform detailed, repetitive tasks with patience and discipline to achieve precise fits.

Physical Stamina:

A good physical condition is necessary for handling heavy lifting, climbing, and working at heights.

Problem-Solving:

Identifying and troubleshooting any mechanical issues that arise during the fitting or assembly process.
