The Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and aligning structural and mechanical components on ships as per drawings and specifications. The role involves working on hull structures, foundations, and machinery fittings, ensuring precision, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
Mark, cut, shape, and fit metal components to form ship structures and assemblies.
Install and align structural parts such as bulkheads, decks, frames, and foundations.
Fit and assemble machinery components, piping supports, and outfitting equipment.
Carry out gas cutting, grinding, drilling, and tack welding operations when required.
Ensure accurate measurements and tolerances during alignment and fitting.
Inspect and verify completed work for dimensional accuracy and quality.
Work in coordination with welders, fabricators, and other trades.
Maintain housekeeping, follow safety procedures, and wear PPE at all times.
Report material shortages, defects, or technical issues to the supervisor.
Qualification & Experience:
Qualification:
ITI / Diploma in Fitter or Mechanical Trade.
Experience:
2-5 years (preferably in shipbuilding, ship repair, or heavy fabrication industry).
Skills Required:
Knowledge of ship structures and fabrication techniques.
Proficiency in using hand tools, measuring instruments, and power tools.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Good physical fitness and awareness of safety practices.
Teamwork, attention to detail, and ability to work under limited supervision.
