Job Title: Fitter

Department: Ferro Alloys(Furnance Operations)

Reporting to: HOD / Manager

Location: Industrial Growth Centre, Industrial Road, Phase II Siltara, Sondra, Chhattisgarh 493221

Employment Type: Full-Time / Shift timing

Job Purpose:

To carry out installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems associated with submerged arc furnaces and auxiliary units in a ferro alloys manufacturing plant. The Fitter ensures smooth mechanical operation, minimal downtime, and adherence to safety and quality standards in furnace operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintenance and Repairs

Perform mechanical maintenance of furnace equipment such as shell, shell cooling system, electrode columns, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, conveyors, and hoisting equipment. Inspect, identify, and rectify mechanical faults and breakdowns in furnaces and associated machinery. Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance as per schedules. Replace worn-out parts such as bearings, seals, couplings, valves, pipes, and fittings.

2. Furnace Operation Support

Support furnace start-up, shutdown, and tapping operations by ensuring mechanical systems are in good condition. Maintain cooling water systems, hydraulic power packs, and electrode movement mechanisms. Assist in maintenance of furnace roof, shell, electrode clamps, and tapping equipment.

3. Fabrication and Fitting Work

Perform fitting, fabrication, and assembly of mechanical components. Carry out welding, gas cutting, grinding, and fitting jobs as required. Align and assemble mechanical systems using precision tools and instruments.

4. Documentation and Reporting

Maintain maintenance logs, job cards, and service records. Report faults, breakdowns, and corrective actions taken to supervisors. Assist in inventory management of tools, spares, and consumables.

5. Safety and Compliance

Follow all safety protocols, PPE usage, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Participate in safety toolbox meetings and maintenance planning discussions. Ensure all jobs comply with statutory and company safety standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

ITI / Diploma in Fitter or Mechanical Trade.

Experience:

2-5 years of experience in heavy industrial maintenance, preferably in

Ferro Alloys

,

Steel

,

Smelting

, or

Metallurgical

plants.

Skills:

Knowledge of furnace mechanical systems and hydraulic equipment. Proficiency in welding, gas cutting, and fabrication. Ability to read mechanical drawings and use measuring instruments. Understanding of preventive maintenance practices.

Work Environment:
