Position Summary:





Fittement as per procedure and instruction by supervisor.





Key Responsibilities:





Installation of structures.

Lift or move materials and finished products, using large cranes.

Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.

Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces in order to cut, bend, and straighten metal.

Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.

Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.

Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.

Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.

Position, align, fit to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs and hand tools.

Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, and/or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.

Preheat workpieces to make them malleable, using hand torches or furnaces.

Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.

Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.

Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.

Smooth workpiece edges, and fix taps, tubes, and valves.

Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.

Tack-weld fitted parts together.

Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.

Select correct current rating, electrode size and type applicable to work at hand.

Tack weld materials in place.

Responsible to handle safety in the workshop environment and the correct use of safety equipment

Repairs, alters and/or fabricates a large variety of metal tools, equipment, machinery,

furnishings, fixtures, and structural components using sharpens and tempers tools.

Read and interpret construction or welding blueprints and sketches; makes material and

time estimates.

Maintains records of shop activities use of consumables and record expenditure in Job

Maintains shop, equipment, tools, for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety.

Carrying out carne assembly activities

Co-ordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.

Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

Assists other trades personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Experience:



If ITI Fitter or Mech 6 to 8 years, where fitment and assembly processes are involved, preferably in the Crane Manufacturing or Engineering Industry.
