Job Description

  • Assume the responsibility of training existing clients who are interested in increasing their fitness levels, losing weight and entering competitions
  • Provide clients with safe, reasonable exercises that they can perform in the gym as well as at home
  • Give clients ample notice if you need to change appointment times and respond quickly to clients who must change their schedules
  • Talk to members of the gym about their goals and introduce them to our personal training packages
  • Collect weekly payments from your clients and turn them over to our accounting department
  • Lead group fitness classes when necessary
  • Work out at the gym at least three days per week
  • Advise clients about important safety concerns and demonstrate exercises or maneuvers as needed.

  • Instructs participants individually and in class settings in maintaining exertion levels to maximize benefits from exercise routines. Observes participants and informs them of corrective measures to help them improve their skills. Monitors participants progress and adapts programs as needed.
  • Plans routines, chooses music, and selects different movements for each set of muscles depending on participants capabilities and limitations.
  • Evaluates participants abilities, needs, and physical conditions, and develops suitable training programs to meet special requirements. Teaches proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion.
  • Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment.
  • Provides students with information and resources regarding nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues.
  • Administers emergency first aid, wraps injuries, treats minor chronic disabilities, or refers injured persons to physicians.
  • Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of exercise science and fitness techniques.
  • Understanding of nutrition and diet.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead classes effectively.
Education and Experience:
  • At least two years of experience as a fitness trainer.
  • Certification where required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of intense physical exertion including running, lifting and stretching.
