Job Title: Fire Testing TechnicianJob Summary
The Fire Testing Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, commissioning, and certifying fire protection and fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with applicable fire safety codes, standards, and authority regulations. The role requires conducting routine and statutory testing, identifying non-compliance, preparing detailed reports, and coordinating with clients and regulatory authorities to ensure life safety systems are fully operational and legally compliant.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspection, testing, and commissioning of fire alarm systems, fire fighting systems, and life safety systems in accordance with applicable standards (NFPA, BS, Civil Defense, local fire authority requirements).
Perform functional testing of fire alarm panels, detectors, manual call points, sounders, interfaces, and control modules.
Test fire protection systems including sprinklers, fire pumps, hydrants, hose reels, valves, and emergency lighting (where applicable).
Verify system integration between fire alarms, elevators, HVAC, BMS, and access control systems.
Identify system deficiencies, faults, and non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare accurate test reports, inspection checklists, deficiency reports, and compliance certificates.
Coordinate testing activities with clients, site engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Witness third-party or authority inspections and provide technical support during audits.
Ensure testing tools, instruments, and calibration records are maintained properly.
Follow all safety procedures and ensure work is conducted without risk to occupants or property.
Stay updated with changes in fire safety regulations, codes, and authority requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of fire alarm and fire protection systems.
Good understanding of fire codes and standards (NFPA, BS, Civil Defense regulations).
Ability to read and interpret fire system drawings, schematics, and testing procedures.
Proficiency in conducting systematic inspections and performance testing.
Strong documentation and reporting skills.
Effective communication and coordination abilities.
Attention to detail and high level of safety awareness.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or ITI in Electrical, Electronics, Fire & Safety, or related technical field.
