Technician Roles and Responsibilities in Fire Safety Department
1. Installation of Fire Protection Systems
Install fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, sprinklers, hydrants, and emergency lighting.
Ensure proper wiring and connections for fire alarm control panels.
Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to install systems according to fire codes and regulations.
2. Inspection and Testing
Conduct routine inspections of all fire safety systems to ensure proper functioning.
Perform functional testing of alarms, detectors, and suppression systems.
Verify compliance with national and local fire safety codes (e.g., NFPA standards).
3. Maintenance and Repair
Troubleshoot and repair faulty components in fire alarm or suppression systems.
Replace damaged or expired fire extinguishers and safety devices.
Maintain backup systems and batteries for emergency lighting and alarms.
4. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
Prepare compliance reports and logs for audits and safety reviews.
Report deficiencies or code violations to supervisors or facility managers.
5. Emergency Response Support
Support fire drills and emergency evacuation procedures.
Assist in fire investigations (in coordination with fire marshals or inspectors).
Provide technical support during actual fire emergencies (e.g., managing control panels or systems).
