Job Description

Job Summary:



The Fire & Safety Officer ensures that the hospital adheres to fire safety regulations and standards. They are responsible for maintaining a safe environment by preventing fire hazards, educating staff, conducting drills, and coordinating with emergency services when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:



Fire Prevention and Safety Compliance:

Regularly inspect the hospital's fire alarm systems, extinguishers, sprinklers, and fire exits to ensure compliance with local safety regulations. Ensure that fire safety equipment is properly maintained and operational. Monitor fire safety procedures to ensure compliance with national and local regulations.

Training and Education:

Conduct regular fire safety and emergency evacuation drills for hospital staff, including knowledge of evacuation routes, assembly points, and the use of fire extinguishers. Provide staff training on fire prevention techniques, emergency procedures, and safety protocols. Advise department heads and hospital management on improving fire safety practices.

Emergency Response:

Lead and assist during fire emergencies, ensuring that patients and staff are evacuated safely. Coordinate with fire departments and other emergency responders in case of a fire or other disaster. Ensure that all necessary steps are taken to contain and control any fire hazards.

Risk Assessment:

Conduct regular fire and safety risk assessments in all areas of the hospital. Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate fire risks. Develop and implement fire prevention strategies.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and fire drills. Prepare detailed reports on fire-related incidents, safety inspections, and compliance with safety standards. Keep up to date with changes in fire safety laws and standards, and ensure the hospital is compliant.

Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with hospital management and other departments to implement fire safety policies. Serve as the primary contact person for all fire safety-related matters in the hospital. Communicate with external fire departments, safety inspectors, and regulatory authorities to ensure adherence to safety standards.

Skills and Qualifications:



Education:

A degree or diploma in fire safety, emergency management, or a related field.

Certification:

Fire Safety Certification or equivalent qualifications.

Experience:

Previous experience in fire safety management, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Knowledge:

Familiarity with fire prevention techniques, emergency response procedures, and safety regulations specific to healthcare environments.

Skills:

Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-stress situations.

Physical Requirements:



Ability to respond to emergencies quickly, including evacuating patients and staff if necessary. Ability to perform safety checks and inspections in different areas of the hospital.
