The Fire & Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving fire safety systems and emergency preparedness at the site. The role ensures compliance with safety regulations, conducts risk assessments, executes mock drills, inspects firefighting equipment, and trains staff on safety procedures.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Fire Safety System Management
Inspect, monitor, and maintain all fire equipment including fire alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, extinguishers, PA system, and emergency lighting.
Verify daily operation of fire pumps, jockey pumps, and control panels.
Ensure all fire exits, escape routes, and assembly points are clear and compliant.
B. Risk Assessment & Compliance
Conduct regular hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA).
Ensure compliance with NBC, IS standards, and local fire norms.
Assist in preparation of fire NOC documents and renewal support.
Report unsafe practices and ensure corrective action is closed.
C. Emergency Preparedness
Develop and implement emergency response plan (ERP).
Conduct periodic fire evacuation and mock drills with staff/residents.
Train staff, security, and housekeeping teams on basic firefighting and emergency procedures.
Act as first responder during any emergency incident.
D. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily fire logbook, pump room records, extinguisher list, and safety checklist.
Prepare incident reports, near-miss reports, and investigation documents.
Maintain training records and compliance reports.
Support audit preparations and safety inspections.
E. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with AMC vendors for fire system service and rectify defects.
Liaise with statutory bodies and fire department officers (if required).
Communicate safety guidelines to vendors, contractors, and site teams.
Ensure permit-to-work (PTW) system is followed during high-risk work (hot work, confined space, electrical work).
F. General Safety Management
Monitor worksite for PPE compliance and safe work practices.
Ensure safety signage is available, updated, and visible.
Prepare SOPs for fire system operations and safety processes.
Support facility team in daily operations with safety guidance.
3. Required Skills & Qualifications
Diploma in Fire & Safety / Industrial Safety / Fire Engineering.
Certification from BFS, NIFS, or recognized fire institute preferred.
2-5 years experience in fire & safety operations for buildings, malls, industries, or corporate sites.
Good knowledge of fire systems, equipment, emergency response, and hazard control.
Basic knowledge of firefighting equipment operation and troubleshooting.
Strong communication skills and ability to train staff.
4. Additional Requirements
Ability to work in shifts and during emergencies.
Physically fit and able to respond quickly in emergencies.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Email).
Good coordination and reporting skills.
