Key Responsibilities For Fire Systems Designer:

Fire Systems Design Responsibilities:

Design and develop fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, suppression systems, smoke extraction, and emergency lighting systems for construction projects. Perform calculations for fire protection systems, such as water flow, pressure, sprinkler coverage, and fire alarm detection areas. Ensure designs comply with local fire codes and regulations (e.g., NBC 2016 , NFPA, UDCPR & local fire department guidelines). Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and MEP teams to integrate fire protection systems within the overall design. Develop detailed fire protection system drawings using CAD or BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit). Prepare and review specifications for fire protection equipment and materials. Assess the feasibility of fire protection designs and propose necessary changes to improve system efficiency and safety. Provide input and recommendations for the installation of fire systems during construction.

BOQ Responsibilities:

Prepare a comprehensive and accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for fire protection systems, including materials, equipment. Quantify the requirements for fire safety components, such as pipes, sprinklers, alarms, control panels, and fire extinguishers. Collaborate with project managers and quantity surveyors to ensure the BOQ aligns with the final design and project specifications. Assist in tendering processes by preparing cost estimates and evaluating contractor bids for fire system installations. Monitor project costs and provide cost-effective fire protection systems solutions without compromising safety or quality. Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely availability of materials and resources required for fire system installations.
