- Hospital Financial Counsellor
Position Summary
The Hospital Financial Counsellor is responsible for guiding patients and their families regarding estimated treatment costs, billing procedures, insurance coverage, payment options, and financial assistance schemes. The role ensures transparency in financial matters and helps reduce stress for patients while maintaining compliance with hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Counselling
Provide patients and families with clear explanations of estimated costs for surgeries, treatments, and procedures.
Counsel patients regarding insurance coverage, exclusions, and out-of-pocket expenses.
Guide patients on available financial assistance programs, government schemes, and hospital policies.
Financial Guidance
Prepare and explain cost estimates, advance deposits, and package inclusions/exclusions.
Clarify billing processes, payment schedules, and potential additional charges.
Support patients in choosing cost-effective treatment options where applicable.
Insurance & Documentation
Liaise with TPA/insurance desk for pre-authorizations and approvals.
Ensure accurate documentation for insurance claims and patient records.
Educate patients on claim settlement timelines and procedures.
Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and administrative teams to ensure alignment of treatment and cost communication.
Handle patient queries and concerns promptly and empathetically.
Act as the link between patients and the billing department.
Compliance & Reporting
Adhere to hospital policies, financial regulations, and ethical standards.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Prepare daily/weekly reports on counselling cases, deposits, and insurance activities.
