The position is responsible for performing core controllership functions for American Express Limited (AEL) legal entity which in houses the International GNS business, ranging from Accounting, Reporting, Business / Financial management, Audit / Internal controls, other compliances requiring engagement with multiple groups. The position will report directly to Delivery Leader and will play an integral role in supporting and driving critical business initiatives / complex accounting & reporting issues relating to new deals, legal entity structural changes, AEL Consolidated Audit, implementation of new accounting standards and related disclosures in financial statements and able to articulate upstream and downstream impacts from legal entity perspective. Responsibilities:

  • Support in preparation and review of US-GAAP financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Shareholder\xe2\x80\x99s equity & Cash Flow), roll-forwards / schedules
  • Represent AEL on discussion on Organization wide initiatives and do a holistic assessment of impacts of such initiatives on financial reporting of legal entity results.
  • Analyze and review monthly results and highlight any unusual trends noticed, create quarterly variance analysis and business commentaries
  • Drive results in complex specialized projects / transactions to support Business initiatives
  • Prepare and submit Annual/quarterly submissions to External & Regulatory Reporting team
  • Support presentation of key accounting matters and financial results to AEL Board of Directors
  • Drive Balance Sheet governance exercise to ensure proactive clearances of unnatural, static, unreconciled balances and other alarming items
  • Identify improvement opportunities in existing processes (trending, variance analytics and commentary) and legacy system set-ups
  • Support key initiatives to strengthen legal entity governance framework by identifying \xe2\x80\x98out of the box\xe2\x80\x99 opportunities and add value to the company
  • Active participation in core process framework \xe2\x80\x93 Financial & close governance, audit / exam support, board support, other enterprise-wide exercises like resolution planning, LEG assessment
Minimum Qualifications/ Critical Factors to Success:
  • Knowledge and practical experience of working on US GAAP/IFRS
  • Excellent business acumen, ability to think both in terms of business strategy and technical compliance.
  • Strong communication and articulation skills.
  • Analytical mindset and Digitization acumen.
  • Ability to collaborate across the team as well as other Market finance controllers and SMEs
Past Experience:
  • Up to 3 years of experience in Financial reporting areas like Legal entity controllership/Statutory Audit/ External reporting
Academic Background:
  • Professional Accounting degree CA/CPA or equivalent experience
Functional Skills/Capabilities:
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellent attention to detail, understanding of company business, segments
  • Able to challenge status quo & effectively communicate with leadership, auditors, regulator. Knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS with ability to understand the changes resulting from upcoming GAAP modifications
  • Must be proficient in MS Applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of working on Oracle, Smartview, HFM would be a plus
