Role Context:



The CSS: Asian Elephant was created through a partnership between the IUCN SSC Asian Elephant Specialist Group and Chair's Office, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Wildlife Trust of India. The aim of the CSS: Asian Elephant is to assist all Asian elephant range countries in coordinating conservation initiatives identified at the Range State meetings as priorities and signed into the Kathmandu Declaration for Asian Elephant Conservation. This position is essential in communicating with stakeholders involved in action planning for Asian elephant conservation efforts through a wide range of platforms such as social media, written reports, local and international media and other agencies.





Key Responsibilities




1) Content Development:



Create compelling written and visual content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, social media updates, website content, and multimedia materials. Work with CSS Asian Elephant partners and stakeholders on the development of key communication assets including, for example Guidelines, workshop summaries, position statements and scientific publications. Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure a consistent flow of information.


2) Media Relations:



Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers. Draft and distribute press releases and media advisories. Coordinate interviews, media appearances, and briefings for key organizational spokespeople.


3) Social Media Management:



Manage and curate the organization's social media accounts, ensuring content aligns with communication goals. Monitor social media trends and engage with the online community to foster a positive brand image.


4) Community Engagement:



Work with CSS Asian Elephant partners and stakeholders on the development of key communication materials and approaches to engage priority audiences and communities in positive Human Elephant Coexistence strategies.


5) Internal Communications:



Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging within the organization. Create internal communication materials, such as newsletters and announcements.


6) Crisis Communication:



Develop crisis communication plans and strategies, ready to be implemented in case of emergencies or adverse situations. Act as a spokesperson during crisis situations, maintaining transparency and trust.

7) Event Coordination:



Assist in planning and executing events, including press conferences, stakeholder workshops and training, product launches, and promotional activities.


8) Market Research:



Conduct market research and analyze data to identify communication opportunities and trends. Use research findings to adjust communication strategies accordingly.


9) Measurement and Reporting:



Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication campaigns. Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust strategies based on data analysis.


Project Planning & Management




1)Support the development and implementation of the overall Project Implementation Plan.


2)Prepare and submit periodic work plans and progress updates for IUCN SSC and partner organizations, as required.


3)Participate in regular coordination meetings with project partners and stakeholders to ensure smooth planning and execution of activities.





Donor's Co-ordination




1)Share communication updates, visibility materials, and periodic newsletters with donors as needed.


2)Collaborate with partner organizations to ensure branding and acknowledgment of donor support in materials.


3)Support in creating reports or visual media content for donor presentations or engagement.


4)Ensure donor communication protocols are followed across all project-related platforms.



External Communication / Co-ordination




1)Act as the communications liaison for CSS Asian Elephant, coordinating outreach, and coverage.


2)Collaborate with external designers, writers, and technical consultants to produce high-quality communication outputs.


3)Align messaging and public communication with that of partners in the CSS global network.


4)Support engagement with various stakeholders through tailored communication approaches.





Any other responsibilities




1)Undertake other tasks as assigned by the Program Manager to meet evolving communication needs of the center.




Language requirements




Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Fluency in any of the Asian elephant range country languages and pr


oven competence at public speaking would be an advantage.

Other requirements




If the applicant is not a citizen of India, they should possess all required VISA documents and work permits to work in India.
