A Lead NDT Level 3 in a home office role for oil and gas offshore projects is primarily responsible for the overall management, development, and administration of the company's Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) programs and personnel certification, ensuring compliance with international codes and standards.

  • Procedure Development & Approval: Develop, write, review, qualify, and approve NDT procedures, techniques, and work instructions in compliance with relevant codes (e.g., ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, DNV GL, Norsok) and customer specifications.
  • Personnel Management & Certification: Assume technical responsibility for the NDT staff. Conduct, monitor, and manage the training, examination, and certification of NDT Level I and Level II personnel in accordance with the company's written practice (e.g., SNT-TC-1A or NAS 410).
  • Technical Guidance & Support: Act as the primary technical authority for NDT, providing guidance and assistance to inspection teams, engineering departments, and clients on method selection, application, and interpretation of results.
  • Quality Assurance & Control: Oversee NDT operations to ensure quality control and compliance with all applicable project and safety standards. This includes conducting internal and external audits of NDT activities and vendor/supplier qualifications.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Ensure all NDT documentation, test results, and data are accurately captured, maintained, and formally approved. Prepare technical and inspection management reports for clients and top management.
Project Coordination (Offshore Focus):
  • Client & Third-Party Interface: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, third-party inspection (TPI) agencies, and certifying authorities regarding NDT and quality issues.
  • Project Planning: Coordinate NDT schedules with QA/QC and production teams to align with construction, maintenance, and shutdown project timelines (onshore and offshore).
  • New Technology Implementation: Stay abreast of new NDT technologies (e.g., PAUT, TOFD, MFL, Eddy Current) and recommend innovations to improve efficiency, quality, and safety in inspection programs.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Certification: Valid ASNT NDT Level III (or equivalent PCN/ISO 9712 Level 3) certification in multiple methods, typically including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT).
  • Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or a related Engineering discipline is often required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, covering static equipment, pipelines, and marine structures, with demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, communication (written and oral), and computer skills (MS Office, inspection management systems).
