YOUR POSITION WITH TNC





The Nature Conservancy has initiated a project titled "Catalyzing Collective Action for Water Security in Maharashtra" under which it is proposed to establish Ghod River Water Fund to showcase a pragmatic, long-term solution that improves lives, provides water security and thus enabling prosperity of the local communities. The water fund is a governance and finance mechanism that improves water security through collective action, allowing downstream water users to invest collectively in upstream water and land conservation. Water funds help to manage the significant complexities associated with water risk and nature-based source water protection and have the potential to bring widespread water security and economic benefits to India's burgeoning cities and rural communities. Water fund team would be needing a Water Fund Field Manager based out of Pune district for execution work in Ghod Basin. They support and oversee all aspects of the Ghod River Water Fund, a pilot water fund for India. They are Responsible for all operational oversight regarding institutional development, budgeting, resource mobilization, grants management, community and stakeholder engagement and staff coordination. Water Fund Field Manager will report to Ghod River Water Fund Lead/Manager. Location - Pune, Maharashtra with frequent travel to New Delhi.
  • Connect with local communities and other relevant stakeholders to understand their water-related issues and needs.
  • Build a strong connection with local communities and mobilize them for execution of work under field pilots.
  • Extensively travel in the Ghod basin to identify opportunities for field interventions.
  • Conduct feasibility study for execution - evaluate existing work and skills of local partners, support available from government agencies, and community participation.
  • Execute, monitor, and report on field pilots under the guidance of the project lead.
  • Support capacity building of the local communities and partners, especially on field implementation aspects.
  • Manage relationships and engagements with all the relevant stakeholders, local partners, communities, and government agencies.
  • Prepare monthly progress report on the field pilots.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING




  • Graduation (BA/BS) in any relevant field, preferably in conservation practice or rural management, social science, agriculture or natural resource management.
  • 5-6 years' experience working with rural communities in Maharashtra on execution of watershed and/or biodiversity conservation activities.
  • Fluent in Marathi with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience identifying local trees, herbs, wind direction, crops, soil types, geology, drains, streams, and their connectivity in the watershed.
  • Experience with communities in rural Maharashtra and social issues, including gender and equity issues.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, relevant field, preferably in conservation practice or rural management, social science, agriculture, or natural resource management.
  • 8+ years of experience in water conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing, and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
  • Stakeholder management and networking experience, and the ability to communicate and engage to build strong relationships.
  • Experience managing and leading people representing a diverse range of views from a diverse set of organizations.
  • Experience working strategically whilst maintaining an eye for detail.
  • Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives and experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Politically savvy.
