The University offers several courses in statistics and data analysis. These course focus on theoretical and computational aspects, while being mindful of socially informed, humane, sustainable and ethical practices. These are offered across different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Our teaching practices and curriculum are informed by the needs of a diverse student body. The Mathematics, Economics, and Information Sciences programmes incorporate a sequence of courses on Probability, Statistics, Data Analysis and associated areas such as Machine Learning, Politics and Ethics of Data, Computational Methods and Responsible Design in their respective curricula. These courses are also core to the Statistics minor and the 'Data, Democracy and Development' minor.
We invite applications from candidates who can teach a minimum of at least 4 and preferably 5 of the following broad content areas:
Probability and Mathematical Statistics at Undergraduate or Postgraduate levels.
Undergraduate level mathematics and introductory programming courses.
R programming including web-scraping and visualisation of high dimensional data.
Essentials of machine learning.
Sampling and survey design.
Big data and politics/Political economy of data and technologies.
Systems thinking and human centered design.
Requirements
An advanced degree inStatistics/Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, Science and Technology Studies or related areas.
Work experience in data analysis/machine learning in a professional field.
Field experience with survey design/sampling and statistical analysis of public data.
Experience in dealing with law, technology and policy.
Teaching experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Candidates with interest in and engagement with data analysis in the social sciences are encouraged to apply. Any demonstrable evidence of using data driven approaches to improve transparency and accountability of social justice and welfare programmes would be valuable.
