Role Brief

BARSYL is seeking a Business Development - Research & Communication Analyst to strengthen data-driven decision-making across proposals, market positioning, and strategic growth initiatives within this sector.



This role will focus on analyzing internal business development and proposal data alongside external market intelligence relevant to Railways and Urban Transport, including competitor activity, bid trends, and commercial insights. The role will work closely with segment leads across domestic and international markets to identify, structure, and prioritize sector-aligned opportunities. Additionally, the role will support targeted marketing initiatives by translating research insights into meaningful, market-facing collateral in collaboration with the Communications team.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Process Analysis

Analyze internal BD and proposal data specifically for railways and urban transport opportunities, including: + Client focus and client segmentation trends (e.g., rail authorities, metro corporations, EPCs, OEMs, operators)
+ Sector and segment-wise opportunity patterns (rail / metro / systems / stations / depots / rolling stock, etc.)
+ Proposal turnaround time and win-loss metrics across rail and urban transport pursuits
+ Resource utilization and proposal efficiency indicators for rail/urban transport bids and proposals

Create structured insights to support BD leadership and segment leads in strategic decision-making for rail/urban transport markets Identify gaps, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities in BD processes and proposal development for sector-specific pursuits

External Market & Competitor Research (Railways & Urban Transport)

Track and analyze external market data relevant to railways and urban transport, including: + Market and sector-wise bidding trends (rail/metro tenders, systems packages, EPC bid patterns, etc.)
+ Competitor positioning, activity, and strategy analysis in rail/urban transport domains
+ Commercial models, pricing patterns, and bid benchmarking for comparable rail/metro scopes
+ Price bid analysis and cost competitiveness insights for rail/urban transport bids

Monitor emerging trends, policy and regulatory developments, and demand signals impacting railways and urban transport markets

Opportunity Identification & Structuring (Railways & Urban Transport)

Research, collate, and evaluate potential new opportunities in railways and urban transport across domestic and international markets Work closely with segment leads to: + Align opportunities with BARSYL's sector strategy and priority themes
+ Structure opportunity pipelines based on market attractiveness, fit, and readiness within rail/urban transport segments
+ Support go/no-go decisions through data-backed insights for rail/metro bids and pursuits

Maintain a centralized and structured rail/urban transport opportunity intelligence repository

Data Collation, Reconciliation & Management

Analyse stakeholder data from internal teams, partners, and external sources relevant to railways and urban transport pursuits Cross-validate external market intelligence with internal performance and proposal data for sector opportunities Work with MIS and Quality team on multiple Excel-based databases and information trackers for rail/urban transport markets in a structured and scalable manner Continuously improve data organization practices for accessibility, accuracy, and usability across BD and leadership stakeholders

Tools, Databases & Analytical Capability

Work extensively with Excel for data analysis, structuring, and reporting for sector-focused datasets Demonstrate an understanding of, or strong inclination to learn: + Database tools used for opportunity/market tracking
+ Data visualization and reporting tools
+ Structured data management techniques for multi-market rail/urban transport intelligence

Marketing & Strategic Communication Support (Sector-Focused)

Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing teams to: + Develop targeted marketing collateral informed by rail/urban transport market research and strategic insights
+ Support sector-specific, client-specific, and geography-specific campaigns within rail and urban transport
+ Translate complex research and data into clear, compelling narratives for external audiences in this sector


Support strategic initiatives with data-backed messaging and positioning inputs tailored to railways and urban transport stakeholders

Requirements

Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and identify trends and insights Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience handling multiple datasets and trackers Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly
