The Tool Room Executive is responsible for leading the tool room operations, including the design, development, maintenance, and repair of molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in plastic manufacturing. The role ensures tooling reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports production through efficient mold maintenance and innovation in tooling processes.
Key Responsibilities:1. Tooling Management
Plan, organize, and supervise all tool room activities (new tool development, maintenance, and repair).
Ensure timely availability of molds, dies, and fixtures for production without compromising quality.
Monitor mold performance and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime.
Review tool drawings and coordinate with design and production teams for modifications or improvements.
Manage tool life cycles and ensure documentation of all repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
2. Team Leadership
Lead, train, and motivate toolmakers, machinists, and maintenance technicians.
Allocate resources effectively to meet production schedules.
Conduct regular performance reviews and technical training for tool room personnel.
3. Process Improvement
Implement best practices in tool room operations, emphasizing precision, safety, and efficiency.
Introduce new machining technologies, materials, and techniques to improve tool performance and longevity.
Support continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing.
4. Quality & Compliance
Ensure all tools and molds meet dimensional accuracy and quality standards.
Work closely with the Quality and Production departments to resolve tool-related defects or quality issues.
Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 / ISO 14001 or other relevant standards.
5. Cost & Inventory Control
Manage tool room budget, including consumables, spare parts, and machining tools.
Control tool inventory and ensure optimal utilization of materials and manpower.
Identify cost-saving opportunities through reconditioning or redesign of molds and dies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical, or Production Engineering.
Minimum
8-15 years of experience
in
tool room operations
within a
plastic manufacturing
setup (injection molding, blow molding, or extrusion).
Strong knowledge of mold design, machining, fitting, and polishing processes.
Proficiency in CNC, EDM, WEDM, and conventional machining operations.
Understanding of CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, UG/NX, or similar).
Sound knowledge of polymer materials and their molding behaviors.
Excellent leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and cross-functional coordination abilities.
