An ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) Technician Cum Operator manages and runs the daily operations of an ETP, ensuring wastewater treatment processes meet environmental regulations through monitoring, equipment maintenance, chemical dosing, and sample testing, and troubleshooting. The role requires a technical background (ITI or Diploma), hands-on experience, strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operation:
Operate ETP equipment, including pumps, filters, and chemical dosing systems, to treat industrial wastewater.
Monitoring & Control:
Continuously monitor key parameters (like pH, COD, TDS) using gauges and instruments to ensure the treatment process is efficient and compliant with standards.
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on ETP machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functioning and prevent breakdowns.
Chemical Handling:
Accurately add and adjust chemicals used in the treatment process (e.g., for disinfection or coagulation) to achieve desired water quality.
Sample Testing & Analysis:
Collect samples of influent, in-process, and treated effluent for analysis to monitor water quality and effectiveness of the treatment.
Environmental Compliance:
Ensure all effluent discharges meet stringent environmental regulations and company standards, preventing pollution.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve operational issues, bottlenecks, and breakdowns within the ETP system.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate daily operational logs, record readings, and keep records for reporting and quality control.
Safety:
Adhere to strict safety protocols, handle equipment safely, and maintain a safe working environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education:
ITI (Industrial Training Institute) or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is common.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in operating ETPs, utilities, or relevant industrial processes.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in operating ETP and RO plants.
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
Hands-on experience with plant utilities and machinery.
Knowledge of basic water treatment processes and environmental regulations.
Soft Skills:
Ability to monitor and control complex processes.
Strong attention to detail.
Good communication skills for coordinating with other teams.
