A Quantity Surveyor in building construction is responsible for managing all costs related to a construction project, from initial estimates to final accounts. They ensure that projects are completed within budget while maintaining quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare cost estimates and feasibility studies for new projects.
Develop budget plans and ensure cost efficiency.
Provide cost advice to clients and stakeholders.
Prepare bill of quantities (BOQ) and tender documents.
Evaluate contractor bids and assist in contract negotiation.
Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
Monitor project costs and expenditures.
Identify and mitigate financial risks.
Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to optimize resources.
Measure and evaluate construction work done on-site.
Certify interim payments to contractors and subcontractors.
Prepare and manage final accounts upon project completion.
Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
Prepare and present cost reports and forecasts.
Advise on procurement strategies and supply chain management.
Ensure compliance with building regulations and contract laws.
Manage claims, disputes, and variations.
Collaborate with legal teams on contract-related matters.
Qualifications
Degree
in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field
Strong knowledge of
construction techniques, materials, and project execution

Proficiency in
AutoCAD, MS Office, or other construction software
.
