The Marine Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of ship machinery, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment. The role involves ensuring that all mechanical and marine systems function efficiently, safely, and in compliance with class and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain marine propulsion systems, engines, and auxiliary machinery.
Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of machinery on board vessels.
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shipboard systems.
Supervise dry-docking, repair, and overhaul operations for engines and machinery.
Ensure compliance with classification society standards (ABS, DNV, IRS, BV) and statutory regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, IMO).
Monitor fuel consumption, machinery performance, and preventive maintenance schedules.
Prepare and review technical documents, machinery reports, and maintenance logs.
Coordinate with electrical, hull, and outfitting departments during vessel construction or repair.
Assist in procurement and inventory management of spare parts and machinery components.
Support sea trials, dock trials, and system commissioning activities.
Implement safety, environmental, and energy efficiency measures in all engineering operations.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
3-7 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or onboard vessel operations.
In-depth knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery.
Familiarity with marine codes, class requirements, and safety standards.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and maintenance management software.
Good communication and coordination abilities.
Work Environment:
Based at shipyard, onboard vessels, or at offshore sites.
Requires physical work, travel, and flexible working hours as per project needs.
