Embark your transformative journey with Barclays as a Principal Engineer in Global Payments Technology team, to guide the technological direction in moving from legacy to strategic frameworks, foster innovation, and build strong engineering teams capable of delivering complex solutions. You will play a key role in designing, building and delivering highly scalable, reliable and maintainable Payment processing platforms.Your role involves engaging with various technology, product, cyber security, architecture and run the bank teams to ensure a robust platform build, utilizing your experience on software architectures, programming languages, infrastructure patterns with innovative ideas and a strategic vision.Along with this, your role will be also to be a mentor to build and guide the team, along with ensuring appropriate due diligence on change as well as risk management.


To be successful in this role, you should have:

Deep understanding of Software architecture that includes system design, performance optimization, cyber security best practices. Expertise in Modern Programming Languages (like Java) & Frameworks. Proficiency in Infrastructure patterns and DevOps, including knowledge of containerization and orchestration strategies. Experience with monitoring, logging and diagnostic tools to maintain system health. Excellent Leadership and Communication skills with a strategic vision, team building & mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, risk management and change management expertise. Proven track record of driving technological innovation and translating research into production solutions.

Purpose of the role

To drive technical excellence and innovation by leading the design and implementation of robust software solutions, providing mentorship to engineering teams, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and contributing to strategic planning to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with business objectives.

Accountabilities

Provision of guidance and expertise to engineering teams to ensure alignment with best practices and foster a culture of technical excellence. Contribution to strategic planning by aligning technical decisions with business goals, anticipating future technology trends, and providing insights to optimize product roadmaps. Design and implementation of complex, scalable, and maintainable software solutions, considering long-term viability and business objectives. Mentoring and coaching to junior and mid-level engineers to foster professional growth and knowledge sharing, elevating the overall skillset and capabilities of the organization. Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development. Innovation within the organization by identifying and incorporating new technologies, methodologies, and industry practices into the engineering process.
