Job Description

Location: Mumbai
Objective:

  • Lead engineering, projects, and capital investment functions across multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Drive engineering excellence, safe and reliable plant operations, and capacity expansion aligned with long-term growth strategy.
  • Ensure effective execution of capital projects while maintaining compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Leadership:
  • Provide overall technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and automation engineering.
  • Define and implement engineering standards, best practices, SOPs, and preventive maintenance strategies across sites.
  • Conduct periodic technical audits to ensure compliance with statutory, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Drive digitalization initiatives and adoption of modern engineering tools.
Capital Projects & Expansion:
  • Lead end-to-end execution of CAPEX projects including feasibility studies, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Prepare and manage annual CAPEX budgets ensuring timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Evaluate new technologies, process improvements, and engineering solutions to support expansion.
  • Ensure projects align with business priorities, process safety requirements, and global engineering standards.
Plant Reliability & Asset Management:
  • Strengthen asset reliability through RCM, TPM, predictive maintenance, and condition monitoring programs.
  • Implement asset management frameworks to optimize equipment lifecycle and maintenance costs.
  • Lead root cause analysis for critical equipment failures and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Safety, Compliance & Sustainability:
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory norms in collaboration with EHS.
  • Maintain compliance with local, national, and international engineering codes and industry regulations.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives focused on energy efficiency, waste reduction, emissions control, and adoption of greener technologies.
Vendor & Contractor Management:
  • Lead technical evaluation and development of engineering consultants, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Ensure strong governance in tendering, contracting, and execution processes.
  • Negotiate technical and commercial terms to achieve cost efficiency and quality outcomes.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with Operations to resolve plant bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement and debottlenecking initiatives.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Technology teams on scale-up, new product introduction, and plant modifications.
  • Work with Supply Chain teams on equipment procurement, inventory optimization, and logistics planning.
Team Development & Leadership:
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering and project management team.
  • Strengthen engineering capability at plant sites through structured training and knowledge sharing.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.
Competencies:
Education
  • B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Certification in Project Management or Asset Management preferred.
Experience
  • 18-25+ years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, specialty chemicals, or manufacturing industries.
  • Prior experience heading plant engineering and corporate engineering functions.
Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of capital projects, equipment maintenance, asset management, utilities, and infrastructure development.
Skills:
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capability.
  • Expertise in project management, budgeting, and contracting.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering codes, safety standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders with strong leadership presence.
  • Strategic mindset combined with hands-on execution capability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
