Eaton India Innovation Center (EIIC) in Pune, is an integral part of Eaton’s global engineering and technology footprint and house one third of Eaton’s intellectual horsepower with 2000 Engineers. EIIC is home for complete product design life cycle management, from research and technology efforts to product development &launches to product sustaining engineering activities.
Through proven technical excellence, EIIC continues to augment Eaton’s leadership in improving existing products and services and developing new offerings. EIIC operates through I campus located at Magarpatta City along with a world class 70000 Sq ft lab in Pune. Today, EIIC’s current research and technology efforts are focused on global trends that are driving our future including: energy systems, intelligent machines, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing. EIIC is focused on augmenting Eaton’s vision of “improving the quality of life and environment through the use of intelligent power management technologies and services”.
At Eaton India Innovation Center, Electrical Sector Americas is looking for Engineering Director to join our Energy Solutions and Services (ESS) group (~2.7 B$) in global revenue. Energy Solutions and Services, which includes the Critical Power and Digital Infrastructure (formerly known as Power Quality, Americas), Power Systems, and Electrical Engineering Systems and Services Divisions. These three divisions have a significant share of our activity and opportunity with regards to acquisitions, organic growth tied to secular trends, and supporting shifts in Energy Transition. This leader will partner with ESA Leader(SB13) and Global VP engineering to expand overall ESS portfolio in EIIC and Globally.
ESS is software driven and there is a great scope to bring more products in EIIC for engineering, Hence this leader would also work closely with EIIC digital leader(SB14) to bring more digitalisation in ESA product lines.
ESS leader will also work with all global engineering leaders and business leaders for ES Americas to understand customer VOC and startegies ESS roadmap globally and lead that for EIIC ESA group. The Director - Energy Solutions and Services group will lead complete portfolio for ESS including NTI, NPI, cost out, sustaining and software cutting across electromechanical and controls. We are looking for motivated professionals with strong skills in technical leadership along with excellent communication and collaboration skills. Critical to the success of this role is the candidate’s ability to understand the products and services of Eaton. Ability to translate business requirements into practical application, ensuring that concepts get fully executed into product offerings that achieve a defined business outcome. This role will lead the digital effort to support Cloud Connectivity, EV charging infrastructure development, Edge Enablement, Development Toolkits, Cybersecurity, Data Science and Analytics that will drive to become becomes more ubiquitous and cost-efficient, intelligent power management company. This role will need prior organizational leadership experience. You can connect with your Software and Digital on a technological level and have an excellent foundation in software design. You are driven, team-oriented, with vision and an energizing leadership style to strategic influence and drive change. You have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and tasks while adapting quickly to changing priorities.
Groups and technologies include -software, firmware platforms, cloud and IoT connectivity, wireless and electronic. Products ranging from UPS, Power Distribution Units, EV Chargers, Transformers, Regulators, capacitors, reclosers, network protectors, Power system controllers, sensors and IoT products etc. This is reporting level group hosting multiple of these divisions.

  • Responsible for driving digital strategy for ESS teams, collaborating, and partnering with Global ESS senior LT
  • Define Digitalization strategy for various products considering competitor landscape working closely with Electrical Sector software team and Digital organization.
Work with Product engineering directors to formulate & execute MGPP and MGTP in sync with growth goals for ESS.
  • Shape Focus area and build portfolio that matters. Define clear road map for next 3 - 5 years and execute action items to mitigate identified gaps. Leverage newly built EIIC ecosystem for prototype and validation to accelerate time to market.
  • Define DMP strategy for ESS in line with global DMP targets. Shape and execute big bet projects. Identify DtV projects and execute identified DtV projects as per VA ProLaunch methodology. Build partnership with newly formed DMP organization and own engineering deliverables to shape and execute commodity projects.
  • Promote culture of CI and automation to improve OTD and FPY
  • Build culture of innovation through planned events, participating in brain storming. Identify opportunities for filling disclosures and execute division goals for IP
  • Lead and develop capabilities for a team of 130+ engineers for New Product Developments, Cost out, sustaining and application engineering projects.
  • This leader would play a pivotal role driving UPS NPI's, also venturing into Chargers in CPU for EIIC, Plus under Power delivery, EIIC would be tapping more to space of regulators in controls business. This requires a strong team of software designers who would be piloting Research and design work for EIIC. This leader is responsible to build that time, this team would target great revenue in alignment to Eaton Strat plan.
  • Build Organization Capabilities – Hire and develop strategy for software talents for ESS business, there will 50more software designers to be hired and developed in the team in next two years to cater to expanded portfolio in ESS. This would be a team for software experts and leader has to manage and develop this team with this volatile market conditions.
  • Leader would be responsible to develop depth and breadth of capabilities in product engineering in Power Electronics, controls, electromechanical firmware, and software as well as adjacent technology areas from Centers of Excellence (for e.g Modelling and Simulation CoE).
  • Enable synergies for growth: Use of common CoE platforms in product development to improve Time to Market, Enhance effectiveness for ESS.
  • Leader would partner closely with EIIC digital leader(SB14), ESA Leader (SB13) and global VP engineering leaders ES Americas to align to customer needs and strategies ESS roadmap globally and lead that for EIIC ESA group.
  • Manages department budget and performance to forecast.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives for higher quality and productivity including but not limited to Design For Six Sigma, Agile Teach, Mentor and Coach DfX Green belt certifications for EIIC engineering community.
  • Ability to work in matrixed environments and track record of demonstrated success in delivery of large-scale software development programs
  • Provide Technical mentoring and guidance, clear obstacles, drive decisions, identify critical dependencies and risks; develop mitigation plans - including leveraging external resources, drive collaboration and resolution between functions. Able to review mentor adjacent software/firmware products for ES Americas team.
  • Develop best in class QA organization and leverage QA best practices across the organization
  • Effectively communicate plans, risks, status of deliverables to teams, management and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution required. Preferred - Master’s Degree in Computer Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 15 years' of experience leading engineering teams either as a technical lead or a functional manager through all stages of the application development lifecycle in embedded software and software enabled products
Prior experience as organizational leader for a minimum of 5 to 7 years in globally distributed teams.
'- Experience in developing embedded software solutions with a proven track record of delivering high quality solutions to customers
  • Innovation mindset demonstrated through patents, trade secrets or technology introduction experience.
  • Thorough understanding of SLDC and embedded product life cycle with hands-on experience on version/ PLM tools such as Jira, BitBucket, Confluence, Atlassian tools chain
  • Experience in developing test strategies include manual and automation testing for web as well as mobile applications.
  • Experience with embedded software development environment and tools for real-time operating systems (RTOS), FreeRTOS, or Embedded Linux
