The Engineering Design Manager will lead the design and development of new products, components, and systems from concept to production. This role involves managing a team of design engineers, ensuring that all designs meet functional requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations, while optimizing for cost and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of design and development engineers.
Plan and allocate design resources effectively to meet project deadlines.
Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs for the team.
Design & Development
Oversee the creation of detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and design documentation.
Ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, and safety requirements.
Approve final designs before release to production.
Technical Expertise
Review and validate design calculations, tolerance analyses, and material selections.
Drive the use of best practices in CAD modeling, simulation, and design verification.
Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA).
Project Management
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, from concept to prototype to production.
Develop and maintain design timelines, budgets, and progress reports.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders for design reviews and approvals.
Continuous Improvement
Implement design process improvements and standardization.
Stay updated with new design tools, materials, and industry trends.
Promote innovation and value engineering in all design activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Product Design / related engineering discipline.
Minimum
8-12 years of experience
in mechanical or product design, with at least
3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role
.
Proficiency in
CAD software
(SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, AutoCAD, etc.).
Strong knowledge of
GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and design standards
.
Experience with
manufacturing processes
such as machining, casting, sheet metal, or plastic molding.
Excellent
project management
and
communication
skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in product development for
automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment
, or
consumer goods
industries.
Familiarity with
ERP systems
.
Certification in
Project Management (PMP)
or
Six Sigma
is an advantage.
