Roles and Responsibilities An EV drivetrain is composed of several electronics and power electronics components whose
algorithms are key to the total system efficiency. The efficiency of a system should be considered
for current and future status of the vehicle, therefore, investigation in new algorithms and health
calculation methods is mandatory to increase the lifetime of the vehicles. Outside the vehicle, the
charging algorithms also are of essential importance to ensure vehicle long-term performance as
well as for balancing load if managing large EV fleets.

The engineer will research and simulate different mathematical algorithms for BMS, MCU and/or
charger (charging stations) to understand potential improvements. He/she will extract the real
vehicle model parameters from test data and then implement and compare optimization algorithms
against the standard implemented algorithm. He will also investigate and simulate the algorithms
considering the affectation of degradation in those parameters to optimize and adapt it in the long-
term scenario, in order to ensure the best performance during the whole lifetime of the vehicle.

He/she may need to run genetic algorithms and/or machine learning algorithms to understand the
evolution of the main parameters in different load or degradation conditions. The main areas of
investigation would be: SoH estimation, Kalman filters, smart charging, load balancing, motor
parametrization, motor position estimation, PID tuning... These simulations and results can be
used later for experiments preparation and real tests.

Key Task :
Develop a motor and battery computer model for future algorithm implementation.
o Develop algorithms for a better SoH of calculation.
o Develop algorithms for motor controller PID tuning and torque optimization.
Develop methods to estimate initial motor position without sensors.
Develop genetic algorithms and/or machine learning to determine the optimal
charging of a vehicle or a fleet.

Design of experiments to extract data and to test algorithms.
