POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Has complete technical responsibility for the belt technical specification, development of samples, drawing release and control, completing internal DVP&R to evaluate performance and durability of various belt constructions.
  • Liase with system engineers to drive technical progress of the projects
  • Develops and evaluates DVP, FMEA and other technical work packages
  • Must be aware of all activities as other team members at all times of team deadlines as scheduled in the GPMS and organize individual work so that all team objectives can be met.
  • Performs static and dynamic engineering analyses to optimize system configuration in terms of belt construction, tensioner design and other components design like pulleys and idler (if appropriate) from performance, cost and manufacturing perspectives, in close cooperation with the system analysis team and the dedicated product CTC`s, RCC?s or external product suppliers.
  • When requested, provides alternative technical solutions for consideration by customers.
  • Determines all testing with the development engineer which must be performed to assure function, durability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Plan for prototype parts - Work closely with system engineer for BOM release, Sales for costing and release of parts from Materials
  • Expected to initiate supporting design and analysis work when the assistance of the Advanced Development Departments is required.
  • As changes are required based on customer requests or test results, updates the design of the system and/or the parts and prepares detailed information concerning changes.
  • Controls product and material production specifications through personal initiative and direction of others.
  • Responsible for the release of customer drawings and approval of internal assembly and single component drawings to insure achievement of customer requirements.
  • Participates in corrective and preventive actions as a team member for assigned problem solving activities, identifies and communicates discovered or potential product non-conformance and recommends and implements corrective action at any stage of product development.
  • To operate and maintain all programs, systems, and objectives as defined by the Design Guides, facility quality policy and espousing Gates Quality Commitment.
  • Guides and supports India engineering teams in:
  • Communicates the updated design information to the customer and the project team to insure acceptance by customer and manufacturability by Operations.
  • This role is the accountable to plan and control all aspects of a project which are within the scope of the engineering according to the valid Gates APQP / GPMS procedure to fulfill the project targets regarding time, cost, quality and risk.
  • This role also serves as the technical contact of the project as internally inside the company.
  • This role is closely cooperating with the Project Manager to achieve the project targets. Together they form the management team of any project.
  • This role is responsible to complete the monthly reports of her/his dedicated projects
  • Lead Preparation of GAPQP documentation and participate in quality audits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads technical discussions, negotiations / compromise solution finding with internal and external interfaces throughout the product development and commercialization stages

Leads and manages product specific, DVP, DFMEA, WBS completion, FRR and project documentation required for functional risk assessment on ongoing projects

Product design and Validation reports evaluation and sign off, DVP & DFMEA, & Product FRR sign off. Provide technical consultancy to different product development partners

Contribute to continuous improvements of various Engineering processes & design tools and also product design guidelines

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent reports to General Manager System Engineering and support to achieve the business objectives of the company.
  • Lead belt engineering and program management activities.
  • Guides product test engineers, SPT engineers, process engineer, supplier manufacturing members & quality engineers for product key characteristic measurements
  • Fully responsible for the form, fit and function of the product and all included aspects for the design which this role is leading.
  • Technical Responsibility for Design, DVP & FMEA / Product FRR sheet sign off
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Requires a degree in engineering and a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Design & Development Engineer within the automotive field or, if not, minimum 3 years of equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive experience in A.O.E. product design, GD&T, and design validation necessary.
  • Must be experienced in use, implementation and administration of CAD systems.
  • Adheres to ISO TS 16949, ISO 14001, HSE policy, VDA 6, GBLP/s, GPS, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma and any other industry standards in all activities.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Must be capable of planning and organizing technical projects and design work against deadlines.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to be able to work effectively with customers and clearly explain complex technical issues.
  • Must have common sense and logic to be able to understand customer requirements and to effectively transfer them into designs needs.
  • Must be highly analytical and a good problem solver.
  • Requires creativity to find new solutions or alternatives to design problems.
  • Must have a good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Must have a good knowledge of the customer requirements and the use of the corresponding CAD/CAE tools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Travel up to ~20% may be required to visit customers, suppliers, testing locations and other Gates facilities worldwide Occasional travel.
