Job Purpose:
The Main Mould Engineer leads the design, fabrication, and maintenance of molds used in wind turbine blade production, ensuring precise geometry and structural integrity. This role involves optimizing mold processes, conducting quality inspections, and integrating new technologies to enhance mold performance. The Main Mould Engineer also oversees equipment operation, safety compliance, and process improvements to support efficient and reliable production.
Responsibilities:
Mold Design and Fabrication

  • Lead the design and fabrication of main molds for wind turbine blades, utilizing CAD software and advanced molding techniques to ensure precise geometry and structural integrity.
  • Oversee the creation of detailed mold specifications, including core material configurations and mold surface treatments.
Mold Maintenance and Calibration
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for molds, including periodic inspections, cleaning, and repairs to maintain mold accuracy and performance.
  • Calibrate molds and related equipment to ensure consistent dimensional accuracy and optimal production results.
Process Integration and Optimization
  • Ensure seamless integration of molds into the blade production process, coordinating with pre-fabrication and post-mold teams to achieve efficient workflows.
  • Optimize mold processes, including alignment and resin flow, to enhance production efficiency and blade quality.
Quality Control and Assurance
  • Conduct thorough inspections of molds and finished blades, using tools such as CMM and laser scanners to verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Address and resolve any quality issues related to mold performance, implementing corrective measures to prevent defects.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
  • Operate and maintain mold fabrication and processing equipment, including CNC mills and injection molding systems, ensuring proper functionality and performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to prevent equipment downtime and ensure consistent production.
Safety and Compliance
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols related to mold handling, including proper use of PPE and safe operation of heavy machinery.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, maintaining accurate documentation and facilitating regular audits.
Process Improvement and Innovation
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in mold design and production, including the integration of new technologies and materials to enhance mold performance and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to incorporate best practices and innovative solutions.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain comprehensive records of mold design, fabrication, maintenance, and performance data.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on mold-related activities, including any issues encountered and resolutions implemented.
Training and Development
  • Provide training and support to junior engineers and production staff on mold design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Share expertise and knowledge to enhance team skills and overall production capabilities.

Qualifications:
Educational Background:
  • B. Tech/BE in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
Work Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience in mold design and maintenance within a composite manufacturing environment.
Industry Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in mold design, fabrication techniques, and integration into production processes in the wind energy sector.
